Default Canadian/Back/Peameal Bacon

Here is a picture of this wonderful stuff which is made from a boneless loin roast with fat removed. It is then pickled and rolled in pea meal or cornmeal.

I have never seen that before. Then again, here in northern VA, there are no butchers or deli's so that could be why!

Thanks for posting the picute. At least I know what you are talking about now Ruth!

LOVE this stuff... we can find it in joisy..my sister in VA says that the FOOD LION carries some stuff that we can find here - and she's grateful for the progresso soups. maybe they have it.

but with all the great hams you virginians have, there must be SOMETHING similar to the peameal... i'd almost suggest a smoked pork loin.

hmmmmm. in some rural parts of PA, there are freestanding butchers in the middle of nowhere. anything like that in VA? i'll be down there in a couple of weeks for my darling niece's graduation, and i 'll take a look in the grocery store [i'm SURE i'll be there!!!!]

Jenn, it does not look like that here. That's the way it looks in Canada. Way too confusing! We have the same kind of meat, but it's always in a perfect circle. If you have ever had Eggs Benedict, this is the meat that is used.
