second thoughts are normal, and I think if they hadn't tied me to the operating table, I was ready to climb right down and leave. My sister thought I was leaving at one point. I truly believe that if you do everything the doctor, dietian tell you to do, and have done your research, then you are ready to take the plunge. I went once before, and the surgeon took naked pictures of me(I wonder where those are now?) and even sent in for approval. I went home, joined weight watchers and lost 86 lbs, but I didn't keep it off.
Do your research, talk to people and make sure you are ready for the life change.

oh my. second thoughts.. third thoughts. afterthoughts. you wouldn't be normal if you didn't try to figure some way around this!!!! all i can say is to agree with buffy. do your homework. talk to as many postops as possible. ask all the questions you can think of and then ask some more.
and don't go through with this unless you're sure...

I may not be the one you need to see a post from as I had some pretty horrible complications following my wls. What you do need to know is this......I WOULD DO IT ALL AGAIN to be where I am now!!
the day of my surgery when checking in I had thoughts of just going home, but didn't. I cried as they wheeled me into the waiting area for my surgery.......I think this is all normal.
do your research, find the BEST doctor you can......one who has done many, many weight loss surgeries.......you do not want to be a practice patient.
and Buffy......nekkid pictures

I agree second thoughts are normal, you would be abnormal if you did not have any ! Remember this is a life long change.
Its is scary! Not knowing what your life will be like after surgery..if something would happen... These are the thoughts I had the morning of surgery. On the good side, surgery was a breeze for me, (laperscopic) and I have had no complications! Knock on wood! I would do it again, in a heart beat. But I do not recommend it for other people, since my experience was so good. I am scared that a good friend may have complications and I would feel guilty. I believe surgery is each persons personal decision. Should you choose to do it or not, you should not feel embrassed.
Go ahead and talk about this at your psych consult. This is what it is all about.

I'd worry more if you DIDN'T have second thoughts!
I remember getting shakey on my wedding day, LOL!
And EVERY SINGLE TIME we've bought a new car, I wake my husband up in the middle of the night and get all upset over "how will we make the payments?"
Then of course, there is the famous new parent who checks on the baby every five minutes to see if the little guy is still breathing.
Just keep in mind the REASON why you started the whole ball rolling. To everyone who told me, "Gee, that's DRASTIC," my answer was, "No, DIABETES is drastic!"
You'll be FINE.

hi guys
thanks for the support. i can't help the second thought, i think sometimes having too much medical knowledge (i am an emt, and finishing nursing school) can rack havack on you...so ihave just decided to continue forward through all the the inital dr's appts, and research more... that way i loose no time, yet *hopefully* will feel more at ease with the answers that i arrive at....peachy- i have visions of me crying hysterically because i am scared...starbucks or not (and if i was going to run, i definatally think that there would be some ice cream involved)

bailzee... you are right to be cautious. if it's any comfort i'm a medical writer and editor, and i know of two MDs and a couple of RNs who have had it done. and one of the MDs will now become my new gyno.. ya can't miss a chance to have a woman gyno who has also had the bypass!!!!
good luck... and ask questions!!!!

.....and you promised me they wouldn't untie my tubes!!!!!!
sheeesh!
Bailzee, We were told at our pre op appointment that if we were in danger of wigging out on surgery day to arrange to have a sedative available for us when we hit the hospital. If you think that may help you, ask the doctor if it can be arranged for you.
hang in there, Bailzee, we are with you!

Bailzee, Bay-beee!
The second thoughts don't dissipate, either. I have heard of SEVERAL Bandsters, who, post-op, thought to themselves, "What the **** have I DONE to myself?"
And although many people won't tell you, some folks get wild, disturbing dreams as an after-effect (sometimes up to a week later!) from the general anesthesia.
Main thing to remember: no, you aren't crazy. You might misplace a few of your marbles for a while, but you'll get them back later. Be good to yourself, because you are doing your health a TREMENDOUS favor.
