I think one of the main purposes of phase 1 is to get rid of the cravings for high carb items. I know that that was an important part for me since I'm a chocoholic! I'm into my second month of the program and saying NO to bad carbs has not been difficult for me. If you don't have a problem with food cravings, then starting off with phase 2 should be ok. As you said, you shouldn't expect huge weight loses each week. Once I went to phase 2, I started losing just 1 pound a week.
