Default Palm/Fist and veggies?

Ok, I got my first day of BFL in and its gone very very well. I did discover that I need heavier weights. I reached a 9 for my shoulders, but thats about it.

Anyway, my question is about portions. Ive read this section 3x in the book and Im still not sure.

Is this right.....

Protien and carbs, palm or fist size serving
Veggies/salads ...unlimited? (to a point I understand)
If my salad is only to be a fist size, then really whats the point?

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks
Robin

Nope, ya don't have to measure veggies.

Here's what Hussman sez:
Quote:
As a practical matter, most fruits and vegetables have quite low caloric content, so those are the things that you can use to fill your plate. They're typically more filling when they're warm. As long as you prepare them without adding fat, creams or high-carb dressings, you can eat practically all the vegetables you want. Seriously. As for fruits, you can't eat an *unlimited* amount, but they'll definitely help you to avoid those "tiny" portions of high-calorie disaster foods. A whole cantaloupe plus two plums have the same number of calories as four little "reduced-fat" SnackWell cookies. Make good choices, and losing fat doesn't need to be about deprivation.

What Hussman says reminds me of this plan I've read about, where they compare whole foods with processed, and OMG you can eat a bushel of green beans as compared to a small fry at McD's .... I'm sure someone can help me here with the name of that plan... It slips my mind at the moment.... It only makes sense tho...

I just wanted to add here too that your veggies, salads, brocolli, cauliflower, etc...and those typesof veggies CAN be UNLIMITED ... Because I see you mention, Cindy, in brackets

(to a point I understand)
it really isn't to "a point" it can be UNLIMITED... and there is a physiological or is it psychological reason? .... Maybe the really intelectual smart gals on the board can explain... Just my .02... I'm babbling again... Later!!

Ohhhh I'm a fount of useless trivia.

Let me elaborate on what you said, Ilene...for your meals on BFL, you could palm/fist a chicken breast and yam...go to a farm, get down on your hands and knees in the veggie patch and eat a whole acre's worth of green veggies if you want to...for one meal...

And when you do that, please take photos and post them here!

yep! If want to eat 400 lbs of salad then go for it. A lot of veggies have a thermogenic value to them (energy to digest) that counter-acts the calories they carry.
