Early good morning. I was wide awake at four but stayed in bed an hour but we are all up now. Dogs are fed and I'm "caffeinated" and ready to tackle the day accompanied by four dogs who seem to have really bonded. (Right now they are all sleeping on the couch in the back room after an early breakfast.
Having the Pypers volunteer yesterday was a great relief. So good to have that done. All I have to do with it now is post a list of winners which I have ready to roll. Then I start working on the display the Mill is putting into the Fair Hall. It will be a lifesize cow (see attached) with an antique milking machine from our industrial machinery collection. The cow is to be escorted from the Mill archives to the Fair Hall on a truck. That should cause a bit of a ruffle in the Village. (My friend Cheryl and I made the cow several years ago but that's another story.)
Aside from that (and dog duties), I am making a huge crockpot stew to feed the Fair Board members on Friday. By day two, most of them are sick of eating Fair food! I am hoping to avoid all the Fair food - luckily the guy with the BBQ ribs is not coming this year!
So ... on with the day. I will be going to the cottage for dinner tonight - so nice to be picked up and delivered back home.
Have a good hump Day - and if you get bored, come on up to Delta Fair!
Wow, that cow looks so real, Ruth! You and Cheryl are incredibly talented to create such a great replica! I hope the Fair draws huge crowds this year!
I'm hoping for a short day today and the start of a 4 day weekend for me. Cindy and the girls are planning to leave for Va. mid-day, and I'll take off shortly afterwards. Tomorrow, I'm driving to Hershey to meet with Tammy for a long lunch date. No other special plans for the rest of the weekend except packing for my trip next week, and doing more garden freezing and dehydrating.
You helped make that cow??! WOW, that's impressive!!
The crockpot stew is a great idea, I'm sure they'll appreciate it.
I'm glad to say Ruth, that for the most part, I've been sleeping until 5:30 AM....WOO HOO!!
I'm back and recovering from the trip. I have PT in an hour, and then *nothing* for the rest of the day, which is great! I do need to get a menu made (oh I told a friend that I'd make her dinner Saturday night since she's having surgery on Friday....), and start getting the kids registered for school.
My friend that I went to visit...lost *125* lbs! It was almost odd seeing her - she looks so different. She did it doing ideal protein since 7/24/14. I gotta say - it's not a very healthy WOE, IMHO. No beans, dairy, fruit, grains....she eats protein, premade protein bars, etc, and only certain vegetables (no yellow squash! no cooked onions?!!). She say she feels great, which is awesome. I'm hoping she does okay transitioning to a more normal diet, which she said is in 2 weeks. What an impressive stat!
Okay - I guess I should get dressed for PT, although they say to come in comfortable clothing...PJ's are appropriate, right!?
The cow is made of a balsawood frame which we then covered with canvas dipped in wallpaper paste - a very messy job. We used papier mache to give her a more detailed shape, painting her with acrylic paint and just put long eyelashes on her because we could not afford glass eyes. She caused quite a sensation in the Village when we had three guys carry her up to the Church for a Thanksgiving display. She's an Ayrshire, by the way.
Wow! What a cow!! You are very talented, Ruth. Glad to hear your picture-hanging job is done and I hope today is relatively calm.
I have been up since 6:30. I have a zucchini bread in the oven (found the recipe Jennifer mentioned which uses almond flour) and also a zucchini chocolate cake made with whole wheat flour. I am sure I will taste the cake but most will be frozen for DS1. I wanted to use the oven while it was still cool outside, although we will only be mid-70s today. Of course, those baking projects only used up 2 large zucchinis!
Tammy, I think pjs are fine PT attire!! Have a restful day.
Cottage, enjoy your short day.
Off to check on my baking projects. I may have to put blanching broccoli on my to do list today also. I have several large heads almost ready to pic.
I still don't feel well today, and anticipating that, I found someone to take my mom to her medical appointment in Denver. I was just not up to that. So I'm going to stay home and keep things very low-key.as soon as the disposal company opens I'm going to call and see why they didn't pick up my trash yesterday. I certainly don't feel like moving in again and hope they can pick it up soon.
