Something I noticed is that whenever I feel uncomfortable internally, I tend to seek food to comfort that and hope that the feeling goes away. Which is interesting because those feelings first come on usually by eating something that my body isn't happy with.
For example, I'll eat too much yogurt. I get weird feelings inside, I guess it's acid reflux or something. I'm not good at distinguishing what these feelings are but they hurt in the stomach and esophagus area and sometimes even going out into my entire chest and upper body, making me kinda weak and just like mehh. This happens when I eat **** food or too much greek yogurt, or desserts, or takeout too. But what I feel like might make it feel better is eating more. These feelings dont usually come on right away, more like an hour or so later... so I feel like I don't wanna eat but I feel like if I eat these feelings will go away and my body/inside won't hurt. Does anyone else do this?
I started feeling it's okay (I usually NEVER take meds) to take anti-acids to help or advil or something to soothe it instead. It's hard for me because I'm usually pretty against taking meds for stuff but are there any other things I can be doing to soothe my body when it feels this way without going BACK to eating the food that's causing me to feel this way? (I also am not totally sure what the foods are or if its heartburn or not, I just don't know lol)
Oh I'm sorry you're feeling so many opposing things. As someone who is an emotional eater AND suffer from acid reflux I feel like I can help shed some light in both areas.
First on the acid reflux - acid reflux can be terribly dangerous to your esophagus. Unfortunately there are many many foods that cause acid reflux although yogurt is typically not one of them. If you want to tackle this without medicine you have to make some drastic changes to your diet which include:
- no coffee (not even decaff)
- no caffeine
- no fizzy drinks, not even sparkling water
- no lemon
- no tomato
- no chocolate
- no spicy food
- no fried foods
- stay away from too much fat
- no eating 3hrs prior to going to bed
Try this diet for 2 weeks and see if you feel any better. Specific foods that help calm acid indigestion are melons and bananas, parsley, basil, leafy greens. I start every day with a banana/parsley smoothie. If you want to try some medicine try Pepcid or Zantac, they are both relatively safe. Stay away from Prilosec which can cause some adverse effects when you stop taking it.
When it comes to emotional eating I have found that Intuitive Eating has helped me identify my emotional stressors that drive me to eat. It has helped tremendously.

This is helpful, thank you! It's too bad about tomato, I eat those a LOT.. marinara, etc. Not sure what else to use as sauce base for my crock pot food. Any suggestions?
I think it is always best to go to a doctor, because, you may never know if is a reaction to food or if it is a hernia in your diaphram where your intestines are going into your ribcage. I ignored a pesky low gradediscomfort for quite a while and found it was a slow leak of the appendix, only after I was given less than an hour to live. Thankfully someone else brought me to the hospital. I would have taken a nap and never woke up.
After your physical body has been checked, then you can try the food combinations and so on.
There is no need to avoid eating all types of food that you enjoy because it is known to trigger pain for others.
I listed those foods because those are the foods that are most commonly associated with acid reflux, not all of them affect me, but I didn't know that until I tried an elimination diet. For example, I can handle lemon but tomatoes are a different story especially cooked tomatoes - those can really set of an acid attack. Everyone IS different but I was just trying to be helpful.

I don't cook a lot of crock pot style food anymore, it's kind of too heavy for my acid reflux. For pasta I make pesto, or vongole sauce, or toss the noodles with chicken stock and spinach. There's lots and lots of no-tomato pasta sauce that I enjoy more than tomato based sauces truthfully.
Like others have said, it's best to go to a doctor. Digestive issues can be tricky and they don't usually go away on their own in fact they can get worse over time and cause damage.

So I had a physical exam a few weeks ago and everything was fine. I don't get these bad feelings unless I overeat and eat junk food. Otherwise, I'm typically fine - no acid reflux or heartburn. Sugar also tends to trigger it.
I had a feeling like this when I was pregnant. Eating too much made me feel bad, but then I felt like I needed to fix the bad feeling by eating more. I attributed it to reflux and heartburn at the time.
