Do you have etools? You can look up food and see how many points it is for a generic tamale or whatever. Also see if your restaurant publishes nutritional info. If it does you can calculate your own points. If not, what I do is look up a food at a similar restaurant that does post Nutritional info. WW has nutritional info for a lot of restaurants.
A good database of nutritional info for a lot of foods is at my fitness pal. You can look up a food (again, if your restaurant doesn't publish info just look up the generic food and see which entry looks most accurate to you). Then, take the nutritional info and calculate your WW points plus.
