Default Anyone on a potassium sparing diuretic

How have you fared with IP? I am having regular blood work but it's quite stressful always worrying about my potassium which has been fine so far but I still worry. Has any one encountered any problems?
Need reassurance and advice.

I have used that exact same medication, but I do not use it regularly. The doctor prescribed it for when travelling and I retain fluid or sometimes when my legs retain fluid and hurt. I have never had a problem with it and do take it while on IP.

I am on spironolactone and so far my potassium levels are fine on IP. I had regular blood tests when I first started it.

I was worried when I started taking it while already on IP. I go for another blood test in a few weeks but I feel good.

Thank you for your response. Do you take the potassium supplement and the idea salt? Is there any particular IP food you avoid?

Thanks again

I do not take the potassium supp and I only use pink salt...and not liberally. I still eat whatever veggies on the list (mushrooms, broccoli, zuccini) and I mostly eat crispy rice, chocolate drink and strawberry wafers. I don't actively avoid anything...and so far so good

I take 50mg of spiro per day

Thank you so much. I also do not use the ideal salt and the supp but eat all the vegetables too. Never heard of pink salt but I'll investigate. I eat a lot of the broccoli and cheese soup and I'm wondering if that has too much added potassium. Do you not eat any of the entrees?
Sorry for the 20 questions. I'm glad we seem to be making similar decisions.

I have been on IP for so long I am so sick of the entrees...I mix half crispy rice cereal and half chocolate drink with a bit of cold water and cinnamon to make a "brownie batter" pudding. Its my breakfast and lunch

Just compare the potassium...is the brocc soup a lot higher?. I used to eat the brocc soup when I first started spiro and no reaction.

I would food log everything for sure right now...if you have tingly hands that can be a sign of too high potassium. If you keep track of foods, then you can identify any foods that cause tinglies.

Ask ask away It's nice to know others on the same type of meds and on IP

I thought that the potassium supplement would be too much while taking a potassium sparing diuretic and I am glad I found this thread! I'm on benazepril/hctz 20/12.5.
Have you experienced any problems since December?

Actually my potassium has been on the low side. My dr explained that the triamterene spares the potassium but the hctz gets rid of it so the net effect is that my potassium essentially remains unchanged by the medication. I have started taking the supplement because my potassium is running low on the diet, sometimes below optimal range.
