Default Getting My Hopes Up Again About Running!

Hey everybody!

I usually sleep in till noon on the weekends, but I magically woke up early this Saturday! I decided to seize the day and go for a run! Sounds easy enough, right!?

Well, I am still healing from a torn ligament I got in Spring 2011. I tore it running my first (and likely, last) marathon and I still limp on occasion. TWO YEARS LATER! Gah! I got custom orthotics made at Christmas and have also lost 40 lbs since Christmas, which I am hoping alleviates some of the pressure on the bad ankle.

So, I decided to go for a short 2 k. I made it through without stopping and I could definitely feel a slight throb at the injury site... I am feeling so apprehensive! I feel so FREE when I run and no exercise brings me joy like running does.

I think I'll give my ankle a day of rest, and try another 2 k. Here's hoping I can become a runner again! I am pretty sure my body can't handle the marathon training anymore, as the 50 k week training destroyed my feet. I would love to be able to 10 k's again without worrying about ripping part of my ankle though!

Wish me luck! I feel like I am THIS close to reuniting with a part of my self that I sorely miss!!! I think the three saddest words in the English family can "I used to" (from Modern Family) and I hate having to say "I used to be a runner". I never want to stop! But my body needs to heal! GAH!

Have a lovely day. Finger's crossed I am not limping in an hour!!!

i wish you all the luck in the world, you can do it!

i'm dealing with somewhat the same issue except it's my knees. i'm not a runner but ADORE very brisk walking on my long dead end road at night with my music blaring in my ears and stars above. All that changed when my knees flared with what i think is a fibromyalgia/RA and who knows what else flare! it's DEVASTATING.

All i can say is pay attention to your ankle and take it slow and when it STARTS to hurt then back off, you don't want to go all the way into immobility.

My husband is a runner and he suffered from a severe strained ligament. He had to wear a brace and stay off of it for awhile--he's fine now.

A couple of years ago--I stepped right into a hole and thought for certain that I had broken my ankle. Instead it was a chipped bone. They put me into a cast for a couple of weeks--I hobbled around for quite a while after that. Once I went back to my Jazzercise class I could really feel that area--but after a year now of working out--that feeling like it's going to give out is completely gone. I think I have strengthened it with exercise. Albeit--I can still tell when the weather is changing in that ankle--LOL

Good Luck--and I wish you the best.
