Default Water Retention Solution?

What do most of you do when you are retaining water? Do you take something either over the counter or use lemons or apple cider vinegar? I've always had an issue with it, but I think I'm retaining more than usual based on my ankles.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thank you.

Less sodium, more potassium.

Or - just be patient.

Low carb diet. I can cut out all salt and I'm already a big water drinker, but I still always feel bloated. Low carb is the only way for me to not retain water.

Unfortunately, a lot of common things we consume can affect that, or even cause it. I have to cut a lot out, because I tend to do that was well, but not ankles only. I love ginger ale, and would have one a day, but I have cut all soft drinks out. I would say cut down on or stop all soft drinks; if you eat chips and crackers, look for low sodium or compare the different brands' contents of sodium; look for soups and anything pre-made that are low sodium, or as low as you can; and of course, limit the salt you use on food.

I wait. I know I retain water for a few days after eating a really salty meal (like pizza or corned beef or ham or fried chicken).

I may drink more water, and take a potassium supplement. But mostly I just wait. My body knows better than I do how to get rid of excess water.

Thanks everyone. I will be probably try apple cider vinegar which worked well last night. That is what my grandmother use to give me when I was bloated. I don't drink sodas at all, no soups, I eliminated chips 3 weeks ago completely and I haven't had any pasta or rice carbs.

I will reduce the salt I am cooking with. I have used the low sodium version for 15 years, so I think yesterday was from a salad dressing I used at Whole Foods for my dinner salad.

I appreciate everyone's feedback.

There are a lot of benefits to using Apple Cider Vinegar. You can Google it for more information, but my grandmother use to give me a glass of water with a tablespoon of vinegar in it. That was torture to me, so now I either just drink 1/4 cup real quick or put it over a salad. It definitely helped me the other day when my ankles were really swollen.
