Sigh - one week until Phase 3 and killed my streak. I have have a horrible head cold and have been dosing with nyquil/dayquil, etc. for 3 days. Today I happened to use a ketostix and for the first time was NOT in ketosis. The only thing i can think of is the cold medicine. When i read the ingredients, there was our nemesis HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. It didn't list carb content - i wonder how much i have taken in.

I've been blissfully cold-free while on IP but you might try Theraflu and/or Alka Seltzer Cold Plus . . .both have been effective for me in the past and I'd guess that they're significantly less of a carb risk.
I searched last night because I have a pretty wicked sore throat and from what I found Nyquil has anywhere from 15-18 carbs in 2 Tbsp! I'm guessing that the gel caps would be lower? I have just been drinking lots of hot tea because I couldn't find any sugar free cough drops.
I have been using Nyquil gelcaps and my losses have been slowing down. I checked online and it says no sugar or carbs in the gelcaps, but it does have sorbitol. Can't remember if that's a bad sugar alcohol or not.
No wonder my losses have been so lousy this weekend, I have been downing Dayquil and Nyquil like mad. I am so ticked with myself, how could I not realize that they would have sugar???
The info I found showed 19g per 30 ml dose. So basically I have been taking in an extra 60g per day, at least.
My husband is diabetic so he can't use any liquid/syrup cold and cough remedies because of the sugar content.
That's why I am so irritated with myself- how many times have I seen the "diabetic tussin" on the shelf, and why did it not click in my mind that it was there for a reason?
I have had a bad week with cold/allergies. I use Vicks Vapor Rub. Put it on the bottom of your feet (with a pair of socks on) at bedtime during the cold season and you will have a much more peaceful night!

Oh I do this too, works wonders. Thank you too, maddie for the heads up with the Nyquil/Dayquil...I would never have thought to look at that and I normally just "swig" it out of the bottle as I'm the only one here to take it. Brother is diabetic and takes all that cold medication for diabetics, will have to check into it.

I am a 'swigger' too! Except I call it "taking a slug" -
