Default Onions and Jicama in Phase 1

I am going to put a roast in the crock pot for dinner tonight. My plan was to season it and put it in the crock pot with some beef broth, onions, mushrooms, turnips and celery and then serve it with some mashed cauliflower. However, I was looking at my phase one sheet and under select veggies it has onions (raw). So should I omit them or can we use them to add some flavor but not eat them?

Also, I do not see Jicama on my sheet. Is it okay to have in phase 1?

Thanks in advance for any input, suggestions etc.

This is interesting and perhaps my coach gave us "old" sheets. Mine says at the top that Phase 1 will be followed until 90% of the goal weight. The egg count (discussed on another thread) is also different. So I guess maybe she has out dated material?

I would omit the onions from your crock pot. Use other spices to flavor the roast. (garlic?)

I know that jicama is on the new sheet - and I love jicama. But my coach did not know about the new sheet and so she didn't know about jicama being added. I'm going to wait until she sees it (and, of course, I'm forwarding it to her!) before I eat it, though.

Your dinner sounds yummy!

When onions are cooked, they release sugars, hence the term "carmelizing onions." I would definitely skip them.

i use shallots when cooking, or green onions, as they are not under the "raw" restrictions

http://www.trantiendiet.com/site/spip.php?article292

this is a phase 1 recipe from the tran tien diet webpage that uses red onions...lightly sauteed...

everything in moderation.

i see no reason why you can't use your onions in your pot roast as they are not caramelized....but thats just my opinion.

my number 1 saying...

WHEN IN DOUBT, ASK YOUR COACH!!!

Well my coach happened to call to check in on us and I asked her. She said as long as they are getting cooked into something else and not getting caramelized we are good to go. The roast smells delightful, and the best part is that we can cut the roast up into portions and have it later in the week.

And my coach says no heating onions at all. (and doesn't know what shallots are and has the old revisions of the sheets)

My coach says no cooking of onions in any way. Only way to have onions is raw.
