Default Pregnant! Now what? :)

did that get your attention?!? Happy Easter everybody; this momma has an Easter bun in the oven.

my clinic is closed until Tuesday so I can't ask then so I'm turning to you.
what do I do now? immediately eat "healthy normal"? do some sort of accelerated phase off? I know I need to get more calories in now but don't want to balloon if I don't have to.
Baby's health is most important but I'd like to stay a skinny-mini-momma if I can help it

P.S. if I know you in real life, or on Facebook, or on my IP blog SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH its definitely not "public" news yet

I would stop immediately there just isn't enough calories on Ideal Protein to be safe for your baby.....congratulations!

it's a myth that if you don't eat enough your baby will suffer. the baby takes its nutrient from your body - what you eat goes to you. babies born during the ethiopian famine still had an average birth weight of 6-1/2lbs even though the mother was skeletal.

definitely clean up your diet - you don't want to infect the baby with chemicals and preservatives and crap like that.

ease off on the sodium - it can hit your blood pressure - and the caffeine (which builds up in the baby at far accelerated rates than adults because it takes their kidneys so long to process it).

according to your ticker, you're well within a healthy weight for your height so you can be comfortable packing on a few throughout your pregnancy although keep in mind that when you're "Eating for Two", the other one isn't another adult, eh?

OH!!!! folic acid!!!! start knocking that stuff back now! it's vital for healthy neural development.

Thank everybody!

Threenorns: this will be #3 so I know the normal prenatal diet stuff- though hopefully with lessons learned on IP, this will be the healthiest pregnancy yet!

I just didn't know about stopping/phasing from Ideal Protein

Congratulations!

My advice would be to talk to your coach ASAP. You may be better off with a phase off than going back to carbs "cold turkey". As someone mentioned above, baby will take what baby needs. You'll both do great, I'm sure.

Have fun spreading the happy news when you're ready to do so!

I would replace my packets with lean protein. For breakfast, I would have a serving of greek yogurt. Lunch would be lean meat, veggies, salad, and I would add a healthy fat to increase calories. Same for dinner. Snack would be another yogurt. Then, I would call my clinic Tuesday and find out the best way to phase off. IP packets have so many "weird" ingredients and artificial sweetners, I personally would feel better avoiding them. Good luck and congrats!

Congratulations, le506. How wonderful.

Nuts, avocado and coconut oil are also wonderful good fats.

Congratulations! I would think you could ease off quickly, but still loosely follow the plan. Tons of salads and lean proteins will be great for you. I'd check with your doctor on what your calorie intake should be when pregnant. I don't know if being in ketosis has any effect on a pregnancy, but you probably don't want to risk it.

You will still need to have a 2 week phase-off. I am going to try for a baby soon and talked with my coach about this possibility.
