Red face I don't believe the scales

I know this is bad for me to do but yet I do it anyway. I have been weighing myself every single day (several times) trying to see how my weight fluctuates throughout the day, after I eat, drink, have breakfast, dinner, wake up and pee etc etc! At first I was doing it as simply informative like I said to see how my weight fluctuates but now it's becoming a "thing". And the worst part is last night I started to move the scale around the bathroom and weigh myself in different spots to see if there is any difference in the weight I see.

For some reason I can't believe that I have lost any weight and keeping telling myself I must have weighed in a diff. spot etc.

I know I need to stop it but I am becoming used to doing it every time I go to the bathroom and now I am considering buying a new scale just to see if the weight is diff. Maybe I should put it up or something. I feel so weird even posting about it.

LOL it's ok. We all have our Scale OCD addictions. Me included. I hate mine. I'm wondering if it is my scale now? My weight has been between 188 and 194 since December, up and down all the time. But I've lost inches! Yesterday morning I weighed 188. This morning I weighed 193??? WTF????? I GIVE UP! Try not to let it get to you, it doesn't tell you the truth, your right the stupid scale IS A LIAR!

ETA: I move mine around the room too haha...I even have a hand weight in my bathroom to test it out!

lol!! i weigh myself a couple times a day, too. usually in the morning, sometimes after gym and usually at night too. i don't think of it as crazy because i don't get these feelings of anxiety or anything upon stepping on the scale, i just like the information. i'll just shrug and go "HMM". so i don't see it as an OCD thing, or whatever.

as far as the new scale..i wouldn't waste your money, but if you're curious and you can get to a different scale, try it out. whether it be at the gym, friend's house, etc

i'm fortunate to where my home scale matches up with what i see at the gym scale, so i know mine is correct.

BELIEVE IT - you probably lost weight :P

I can tell you that in my old townhouse I weighed lighter upstairs in the bathroom than downstairs in the living room.

I congratulated myself on escaping gravity by one floor.

So long as you aren't letting the scale be your mood meter, weigh all day long if you want. It only shows weight change. Not what FROM. PMS bloat, too much sodium in diet, those rocks I keep in my pocket....

My personal daily flux runs between 3-5 lbs.

A.

My name is Demosthenes and I am a scale addict. I have been trying to cut down to once a week. I feel like my diet and exercise shouldn't depend on what the scale says but are permanent changes made to be healthy. I worry that when I hit a plateau I will become less motivated if I am constantly used to getting encouragement from changes in weight.

I have little markings on the floor... So that helps to keep it all in the same place. I used to weight myself almost daily but I've given up on that lately, in fact it's a weekly thing now or not even that often, I feel a better sense of achievement that way, but I've been through the "I had a large glass of water, let's see if I gained weight!" "Ohh, I've gotta pee, let's do a before and after!"
And yes, there was a difference!

I did that in the beginning - for about 4-6 weeks. I think knowing how YOUR body works is very important in the battle of the bulge. Knowing the specific fluctuations and what foods seems to make you retain more water, etc - it helped me to realize that my body DOES fluctuate quite often - not just once or twice a week, but every day, throughout the day.

Doing this helped me to not freak out over a couple pounds water weight. It's the week-to-week differences that make a difference. (for me). I was (& still am) simply amazed that the scale could read 2-3 lb difference from the time I woke up, after potty, after breakfast. Then I'd also weigh with my clothes on, & get yet another 2 lb difference.

Now I only weigh once per day. Always in the morning, always after potty, before breakfast, & always completely naked.

This may not work for everyone, but it helps keep me on track.

I weigh several times a day. In the morning. After I get home from work (Or work/gym). After I work out (If I worked out at home). And before I go to bed. I like to see the fluctuations.

I've learned I tend to lose more weight if I'm on the elliptical than if I'm on the treadmill. Elliptical weight loss and working out at home weight loss tend to be on par. But I want to be a runner, so I keep the treadmill in the rotation. I've learned if I'm down a pound after I get home from work, then I'll be down about 1.5 in the morning from the previous morning's weight. If I'm the same I'll probably lose between 0.8 and 1.2. If I'm up, I'll probably see a gain or a loss of .5 or less. After dinner I'm typically up 3lbs from the morning.

My scale will not show a difference after using the the bathroom or drinking a lot of water or moving it. I swear it remembers your previous weight if you weigh in twice close together. My boyfriend also has this problem with our scale. It makes me want to buy an analog one.

I just think finding correlations is really neat. It's not really an obsessive thing. I often tell my boyfriend "For science!" when I weigh myself. I step on the scale, take note, and forget about it.

If you do end up buying a new scale, prepare yourself in advance to deal with your weight going up. I'm not saying it will, but scales are different, and you might see a change.

Strangely enough I've never seen a new scale replacement record a DOWN change. WHY IS THAT!

I've lost almost 35 lbs now and I still have to tell myself that I'm not imagining it.

I had problems believing I was really losing weight at the beginning too. The scale went down and my clothes fit better but still it felt like it was some kind of cosmic joke and I'd wake up the next morning the same as I had started. Didn't seem to matter to my mind that I was seeing results because I was actively working for it. It probably wasn't until I'd lost a good 20 pounds or so before I finally believed that, yes, it truly was happening. You're starting at a much lower weight than I did; hopefully it kicks in sooner for you!
