definitely do zumba either in your socks or in proper aerobic dance shoes (that's what zumba is, when it comes down to it).
regular running shoes are built wide to prevent your ankles from rolling if you hit an irregularity on the sidewalk. that's hard on your legs if you're having to fight your shoes every time you have to do a grapevine or a double-hop-step-to-the-side routine.
they're also not very flexible at the toe box - you need that flexibility for so many of the zumba moves when you're going up on your toes or doing those quick light hops.
the other thing is that if you're exercising daily and your shoes are more than six months old, they're probably played out for heavy use - retire them to casual walking-around shoes and get another pair for exercise.
seriously - shoes are a foundation, like your mattress. the wrong pair of shoes can seriously mess up your entire musculo-skeletal system just like the wrong mattress can mess up your life by tanking your sleep.
