Default too much water?

how much water is too much? Since beginning to lose weight one of the things that has helped me is drinking a lot of water.I weigh about 250 and am 5'4. I also eat a lot of sodium which I am working on. I can drink up to 12 16 oz bottles of water in one day. Somebody told me drinking so much water was bad for your kidneys and could make you sick, so i was wondering If anyone knew how much was considered too much?

My first thought was "h3ll no, thats not possible", but then I looked it up and found this. Really interesting. Although it is possible (if you drink a LARGE quantity in one sitting vice spreading your water intake out through the day) it is unlikely

It's Not How Much You Drink, It's How Fast You Drink It

The kidneys of a healthy adult can process fifteen liters of water a day! You are unlikely to suffer from water intoxication, even if you drink a lot of water, as long as you drink over time as opposed to intaking an enormous volume at one time. As a general guideline, most adults need about three quarts of fluid each day. Much of that water comes from food, so 8-12 eight ounce glasses a day is a common recommended intake. You may need more water if the weather is very warm or very dry, if you are exercising, or if you are taking certain medications. The bottom line is this: it's possible to drink too much water, but unless you are running a marathon or an infant, water intoxication is a very uncommon condition.

In the hot weather I was drinking about a gallon and a half most days and I survived I would avoid scales in the afternoon though, my weight could shift as much as 7 lbs. Good thing it all goes away!

I drink alot of water too and worry if it's too much...even in the winter, the dry heat indoors and cold air outside can make me thirsty. glad to hear it's ok..why sit there and suffer if you are thirsty.
