Default King Cake Season

This is one of the worst times of the year for me.... King cake season!! I love me some king cake. My favorites are blueberry cream cheese and Bavarian cream. My favorite place that sells them is Navarre's, although Albertons makes good ones for a supermarket.

King cake is a food I can't keep in the house because I will eat it in just a couple of days.

So far so good, but there is still a month to go!

Anyone else tempted by the oh-so-delicious king cake?

Hmmm. God bless Google.

Apparently it's sometimes Mardi Gras related, and sometimes Christmas related, depending upon where you go. But the person who gets the plastic baby in their slice... uhh.. "has various privileges and obligations." So says Wikipedia.

Craaaaaziness.

This stuff is rampant right now where you live?

Lol! It never occurred to me that people wouldn't know what a king cake is. It is related to Mardi Gras down here in Louisiana. Stores start selling it at the start of the new year until Mardi Gras ends.

Here's a link - http://www.mardigrasday.com/mardigras/history.php

Since they only sell then during this period, it does have a certain allure since it is temporary! If they were sold year round (at supermarkets, some shops do sell them year round as a specialty item... Although that is usually more in the New Orleans area), then my addition may not be as bad

Lol, yeahhh. That's like Canadians not realizing that no one else knows what Poutine is. (P.S., it's french fries and cheese slathered with gravy.)

But HEY, just hold out, avoid it like the plague, and think about how much evil stuff is in that crazy looking multi-coloured crap.

This is a little bit unrelated but I'm supposed to be going to new Orleans with some friends for mardi gras this year and I'm a tad nervous about it Haha.. I've never been before so the whole crowded craziness will be a new experience but also I know I'm going to want to drink so I guess I'll prepare myself for a gain the next week.. oh well! Even though I've never actually eaten kings cake I definitely know what it is and I was surprised when people didn't know what it was too haha

King Cake is a fav of mine as well. In Louisiana, that's all we eat around this time.

Hahahaha, it may LOOK gross, but... good god, it tastes like heaven. The post-pub-night-out go-to is this place called "Smokes" in downtown Toronto (The New York of Canada), where they make poutines even WORSE for you by adding things like... pulled pork, or taco-style with beef and sour cream. It's like calories in a bowl.

And because poutines are so good, I've found myself a lower-carb, lower-fat, and altogether lower-yumminess version:

TAA-DAAAAA.

Aren't poutines made with cottage cheese? If so, that's why I could never bring myself to eat one... Now if it was cheddar cheese........

We do have sammiches down south that, along with the meat (generally pork), has fries and gravy on it. Always looks so good, but sooo unhealthy!
