Wow. I'm so sorry about your mother.
I'm no expert in gastric surgery and haven't had it, but I think that you might talk to a counselor about this, and consider postponing it until more time passes. It sounds like you're fairly sure you want to do it, and but might wait awhile until you're feeling very strong emotionally. The passing of a parent (I've lost my father, so I have some idea -- it pops up and bites you at the most unexpected times) is such a monumental thing, following it so closely with another major life event could be more challenging than many people could take.
Is there some sort of counselor or therapist affiliated with the surgical center? They're probably familiar with this sort of issue. Or a grief group or counselor.
