Default So if I disagree with you I'm telling you your wrong and I should be reprimanded...

...but if you're outright telling me I'm wrong you're wise beyond my years and are simply sharing that wisdom with me?

Ok... annoyed. On a different forum I'm on, there's a thread for "plus size" people... talking about weight loss. I mentioned that I don't eat breakfast, and I'm doing IF because doing IF I find I have far more energy, feel healthier, I eat healthier, I'm not as hungry, etc etc etc.

I get told "you may think that... but you're completely wrong, you need to eat 4-6 small meals a day in order to be healthy. You're going to kill yourself."

(not exactly in those words... but close)

I simply say "I disagree, I've found what works for me, and I'm not new to dieting."

And then I get told off because I said that I disagree, and that I'm telling others that they're wrong and that I should be ashamed because other people have their own struggles with weight loss, and that I'm only 18...

So... pretty much telling me that if someone tells me that I'm wrong... they're awesome. But if I disagree with someone, I'm practically attacking them and I should be reprimanded and told off.

?????

I just don't get it. What works for them... that's AWESOME!!! I would NEVER stand in the way of that. However... because I disagree with the way someone thinks I should live MY life... I'm the one who's wrong???

I hope this wasn't a 3FC forum. I have found that on 3FC we may not always agree but we are genuinely understanding and know that what works for you may not work for me and vice versa.

No, not 3FC. A different website entirely... everyone here has been AWESOME. Sure... may disagree... but I've never heard or read anyone outright telling someone they're wrong. Don't worry... not any of you guys.

Ugh. That sounds so frustrating

I suppose the best thing about online "arguments" is that you can easily just walk away or ignore the person who is annoying you.

With how vehemently some individuals defend their diet choices online (and by defend, I mean go on the attack), it's a wonder that 3FC has been able to remain fairly neutral and friendly One of the best policies they implemented was the "Agree to disagree" one.

Discussions happen a lot, and are often encouraged, but they're generally kept to statements in the "in my opinion" variety. I've found it to be a good thing!

I agree. I come here to find recipes, advice, help, encouragement. I've never once come here and felt like I couldnt express my feelings.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Exactly what you said.. it works for YOU. What workds for YOU may not work for sally down the street. Everyone is different. Good for you for sticking up for yourself!

some people are just plain, ..... dumb, don't bother with people tellling you your wrong, if you have found what works for you congratulations, it has taken me many many years to find what works for me. I wish I had found it sooner and did not listen to all the new 'diet fads'. I eat peanut butter once or twice a week on toast with jam, i started drinking decaf and put flavoured creamer in it I am feeling much better and have more energy when I do what works for me and it sounds like you are doing well doing what works for you.... Good Job! It is just nice to eat what you want sometimes without someone bashing you over the head or being the food police.

I think it's terrific that you found something that works for you. It took me 40 years to do that

Ugh, I get this too, to the point that I've stopped letting on to people that I don't eat breakfast. I'm not hungry in the morning, and I just can't see forcing food when I don't want it. IF is working for me, and I'm glad to have figured that out... but if I mention not eating breakfast I always get the 'but you have to eat within an hour of waking up, or your metabolism will slow' or 'if you eat late at night, you'll gain weight'. Last time I checked, a calorie in the morning was equal to a calorie in the evening-- it all depends on your body, what works for you, and when you are hungry. /rant

Sorry, that was a long-winded way of saying I totally get your frustration.

Don't let it get to you. So many people think that their way is the only way. What works for one, doesn't for all. Just roll your eyes, give your computer screen the finger for them, and know that they don't know you.

BTW, I rarely eat breakfast too. I drink my coffee and wait for lunch. I tend to over eat when I eat too early.

They don't sound very supportive, and when you're trying to lose weight you don't need anyone discouraging you. The important thing is that your making healthy choices for yourself. I don't always eat fist thing when I wake up either, because sometimes I'm just not hungry. Some days I might wait an hour or two before my first meal of the day and some days it's right away. It's all about listening to your body

I don't even drink coffee in the morning... usually it's either I get up and go... or I'll have a glass of water. Sometimes a diet soda. But yeah...

Thanks guys... sorry for the vent. I've been making some changes to my lifestyle (primarily when it comes to food and exercise) recently... and I feel as though I need to defend what I do... which isn't always the case. I can do what I do... and that's that.

So yeah. Thank y'all so much!

While I'm not an IF-er personally, I find the the idea that you'll die doing it is just plain hilarious. It takes a lot to kill someone via malnutrition. People can live for years getting totally inadequate nutrition (just look at history: POW camps, gulags, concentration camps, famines, even people struggling with long-term eating disorders). The idea that you'll keel over from not having breakfast and then eating one or two large meals where you track everything is just silly.

Ignore the haters, they're just uninformed and illogical.

You know, I'll fully admit that I might have been critical of you before I joined this forum and heard of IF—but I would keep my mouth shut about it! In joining this forum I learned so much about different diet plans and how they work for people. Some work best on IF, calorie counting, low carb...etc. It's about what works for YOU.

I break so many "rules" when it comes to dieting that I just stop telling some people what I do. Everyone is different, so why should we fit into arbitrary rules?

FWIW, I drink diet soda every day and I haven't keeled over. It fills me up so when people say "OMG YOU'LL BE HUNGRY" I ignore them. I guess those studies saying it makes you crave more just don't apply to me?

I also get what you're saying about being young and having people not take you seriously. It gets really annoying, and I really hope I don't get like that when I get older!

People like that make me laugh. I still get it. My response to them is now, "You're right, I have only lost 52 pounds doing what I am doing. I must not have a clue on how to lose weight... How much have you lost again?"
