I have a lot of trouble dressing myself, so I hope someone can help me with what to some probably seems like a simple problem. I'm in the process of figuring what it is I like to wear. Skirts are a recently rediscovered item. I like long flow-y skirts but what shoes should I wear with them? I've been wearing sandals which is fine, but won't last me long.
When I look at images of skirts, sandals seem to rule. Can you wear long skirts with something else? I've got wide feet. I don't like heels. I don't like pointy shoes. I don't like to spend a fortune on a bunch of different shoes. I don't want to look like Aunt Hazel. Is there anything left?
And what to wear with them? Do people still wear pantyhose? I haven't in years. Tights? I can't go bare- legged. It get cold here, and fast. Any suggestions?
Ballerina flats might be a problem if you have wide feet; I do too, and they bug me unless I can find a really good pair that's supple and a little tighter than normal since they will tend to stretch a bit. However, they are not good for rain, snow, and when the weather is cold (not just chilly). When it gets to be winter, boots can pair nicely with skirts. Often ones with a bit of a heel look good, but you'd have to try it out to be sure. A thick, shorter heel with boots usually won't be a bothersome as real high heels I've found out.
The boot idea had occurred to me, but I have such big calves I'm worried about finding something that'll fit, but all I can do is try, right?
And I forgot all about ballerina flats. I may even have some. I'll have to look. I used to love them. Sometimes they just exaggerate the wideness of the middle of my foot, but again, I can give it a try. They might work for the fall, before the serious weather really hits.
I was going to suggest ballerina flats, too. And by all means wear panty hose or tights. I personally think many women who go bare legged, should not.
I'm probably one of those women. My skin tone on my legs isn't very even, and my hair is so coarse I feel like the follicles are still visible just after I shave. I just assume people aren't looking very closely. I'm never showing much of my legs anyway, just mid-calf down, unless I'm exercising, in which case I don't care.
For dressing up a bit, I've fallen in love with Dansko shoes. You can find them on sale quite a bit. They have a chunk heal to them, but they feel so natural and effortless.
I can't do completely flat shoes. I think it's my super high arches - ballerina flats make my feet hurt and don't do much for the look of the my legs or feet.
I might go out tonight and look. I wish there were more stores around here! I wore sandals today and my feet are freezing. GAK! I need a new wardrobe fast!

Thanks everyone. Keep the suggestions coming
They make boots in wide calf sizes too!
I like these for "flat" boots Link, but I'm more of a high heeled woman myself
1) Flats - go with leather as they will stretch to accomodate wide feet. They are the best show ever because they look a little dressy, but casual and cute and more put together.
2) Boots - go for little ankle boots if you are worried about them fitting over your calves, although if you go with leather again, they will stretch if they are a little snug.
