I am starting to get smelly breath (I know it is a good sign) but it is not very attractive and my boyfriend has noticed as well. Does anybody have any cures or solutions? Is there any gum we are allowed to chew? Or breath mints of sorts?
I had this problem when I tried South Beach... I ended up drinking tons of peppermint or spearmint tea. I had to try a few to find ones that I liked... it helped, but wasn't some magic cure. Most of them are decaf though, so there's no harm in drinking it all day -
It is horrible isn't it, my husband and kids notice. I've been told that it gets better but I'm on week six and it still is icky!! The only gum that I was told we can have is called Spry.
uh oh, i think i misunderstood my coach. i thought he said the gum ws "stride", but i think he said "spry". i've been chewing stride with sorbitol. is this bad?
My coach told me Xylitol gum by x-Pure. Not sold in stores normally, some dental clinics have it, and you can order it on line. She told me only two a day.
Being a hygienist, I tell people with bad breath to eat items with chlorophyll. Like celery, also peanut butter, and yoghurt. There is a mouthrinse called made by oxyfresh that a lot of people swear helps them. When you brush your teeth also brush your tongue.
Not sure if that will help anyone, I guess on phase one kind of shuts down most of those. Maybe the WF pb on the celery lol.
i really like tea tree chewing sticks. you can get them from almost any health food store. they work awesome, and they only cost about $4 for 100 sticks. the freshness lasts for a long time.
I brush my teeth a lot more. My coach said I can chew 2 pc Trident gum/day so I save it for when I know I will be close to people. I also carry the small Altoids but just as any mint, the freshness goes away shortly after the mint.
I use Smart Mouth mouthwash. It's 100% alcohol free and it's two bottles that you mix immediately before swishing for a minute. There's also travel packages that are very handy. Makes your mouth a little dry, but not uncomfortably so. Used twice a day takes away the "stink". Sells for about $10 just about anywhere, grocery stores, pharmacies, etc.
Jay Sykes the national coordinator for IP did a seminar at our clinic this weekend. His recommendation was binaca breath spray he said it is 0/0/0. He said that spry was the lowest carb count he has seen but would def recommend binaca as a first choice.
I recently started using an Orabrush for brushing my tongue. My daughter has used one also with success in reducing persistent "morning breath" we seemed to battle with her. The Orabrush is starting to show up in local stores after a bit of success over the Internet with funny-odd videos on YouTube, but can still be ordered online.
I have long used a tongue scraper and I find it (the Orabrush) more effective and gentler.
I haven't quite gotten through enough posts to learn what the culprit is in relation to the diet. Maybe the "cleansing" of the diet, toxins released in fat burning?
