Here's a post from Butterfly30 yesterday that goes begging for an answer. Can't anyone help her?

"So, I'm a smoker. Does anyone know the effect smoking has on weight loss (I know it is BAD for my health) but I want to know how bad it is especially since I am trying to lose weight on IP. Also, I've heard that quitting smoking doesn't necessarily mean that I have to GAIN weight. Comments welcome. Thanks."

slickmouse Thanks for sharing your knowledge about thyroid and other hormones. You sure learned it the hard way. post yesterday

petiteandcute Congratulations on your upcoming move to Phase 4! I hope you'll hang around with us still, you've been a great inspiration and kicker of the butt for so many.

I know nothing about smoking or quitting. (I only smoked as a child -- smoked in utero, quit when I was born then enjoyed 2nd hand smoke for about 12 years). You might do well to ask about that in some of the other forums, such as Weight Loss Support or Dieting with Obstacles Wish I could be more helpful. I've been trying to dig up some information for my sweetie about how to make quitting easier, for when he's ready to give up the smogs. I haven't found anything yet.

I did a quick search in 3FC and found a lot of threads about smoking, including one Has anyone ever quit smoking without gaining weight?
Coastalcrafter It's good to see you back here. I can't wait to see photos of you in that fabulous dress!

Christine, those soy chips are very very close to what I can remember from the IP crisps. Thank you so much! If they don't have them this Wednesday, I'll be doing some ordering!

Butterfly30, I feel horrible for saying this, because it seems so discouraging, please know it's not intended that way, just a little additional info. A friend of mine is a heavy smoker, trying to quit, and trying to do IP. It's not working. She is miserable and either smokes or eats junk one day, then does the other the next. SHE can't quit both of her addictions at one time. Maybe you can, but for now, she is going to keep on IP, lose weight, change her mindset about eating, THEN quit smoking. Her reasoning is that she is pre-diabetic and insulin resistant NOW, but she doesn't have any (apparent) health problems from smoking (yet). Both are hard, and congratulations to you for really stepping up your game and wanting to get healthy in every way. Also, have you looked into the smokeless cigarettes? They've helped people overcome the nicotine addiction while dealing with the physical need to put hand to mouth without gaining weight. Best of luck to you!

The girls are FINALLY feeling a bit better, thank goodness. It's terrifying when your infants are running fevers topping 104.

Goal for today-----every time I want that Valentine's Day chocolate, I will drink some water. Let's get in 120oz today!

Morning Everyone! Happy Valentine's Day and may you all have a terrific IP kinda day! Only 6 more days to go on Phase III and then I am ready to hold my own on Phase IV. Ready for a break as the weight loss has slowed down to a crawl. I do believe I will be ready for another stint on IP after taking a bit of time off but wanted to phase off properly.
Do you have to phase off through II & III again if you restart the program down the road a month or two?

My understanding is if you restart, meaning phase 1 for more than 2 weeks, then yes - you do need to phase off again because you have shut down your pancreas again and need to restart it the same way.

Good morning!!! I went on the scale this morning and it actually went up. I have not been drinking enough water and been a little constipated. I was also sick with a cold. I am wondering if all of that affected my weight loss.
Well, I am a little bit dissapointed this morning. We will see how this week goes.

Happy Valentines Day fellow IPers!!!

Here's to receiving lovely flowers from our sweethearts and not chocolate!
The two men in my life (hubby and son) are getting gift cards for the Apple App store in their valentines cards.

We went out for dinner last - early Valentine treat - and I was thinking how much my food preferences have changed since IP. I ordered the Asian chicken salad that was on their 'healthy choices' menu. I think I cheated a little as the ginger dressing probably had some sugar in it. But my hubby ordered what I normally would have before IP - linguini carbonerra (with garlic toast). This was one of my all time favourites (well, actually ANY pasta in a cream sauce ). He asked if I minded him ordering it and I said not a problem. I did have a tiny taste of it and, guess what, it wasn't that good! It was just TOO MUCH, TOO RICH. I know had I ordered it I would've felt very ill afterwards. I can't imagine going back to eating that kind of stuff on a regular basis.

Have a great IP day!

Should I be concerned if ketostix go from trace to moderate? Yesterday was a b$&$h. Horrible headache and the feeling that I could eat anything that wasn't nailed down. Today just achy and emotional. Didn't sleep very good was either too hot and sweaty or freezing.

For SURE the big C makes you retain water. I have often had this problem the past months on IP. Whenever I don't drink all my water, or eat enough salad it happens. I got a bottle of Floralax with my starter kit and I take 1 capsule every 2 to 3 days just to make sure I keep things moving along.

Weigh in 6 today (at home... I am doing this without a coach or IP products) and was very excited to see 4 pounds say adios! Perfect timing to give me the will power to "just say no" to all the yummy Valentine's Day treats floating around! Hope everyone has a wonderful love filled day.

Feeling a little blue tonite, stepped on the scale just now, and only 1 1/2 pounds lost this week. (official WI tomorrow) I know this happens, as I`ve read on here, but was really hoping to be the one that it DIDN`T happen too! I`ll just keep plugging along, 15 pounds to go, or a little less if I decide to go to 115...I would be really skinny then! I`m just ready to quit spending so much money on this, and eat "normal". So therefore I want to lose more than 1 1/2 #s a week! Ugh.
Hang in there. I have been on this diet for a while now, and except for my first week, I consistently lost 1.5 to 2.0 pounds per week. I obsessed over loosing more, and now regret all the effort I put in to make the scale move faster. The weight came off, it was just slower than I wanted or expected, and when I think about all the time I spent trying to make it come off faster, well, I could have been doing other things. You may just be a slower looser like me. Try not to get discouraged, it will work!!
