Default Any walkers out there?

Hi there,

I'm just getting started back at exercise after years of being sedentary. I'd love some walking buddies to check in with. I'm just starting with a half hour daily for now. Anyone else?

Hello
I love walking(outside only, I've never been on a treadmill)- even after taking up all sorts of different activities these last several years it's still my favorite daily activity. I take my dogs out nearly every day for at least an hour. Today I got an hour and a half.

Count me in!! I have been feeling guilty about

ONE....not exercising

TWO....not walking my beautiful golden

He loves, loves, loves to go on his walk. I have been substituting his walk with some "quality time" with me and my laptop or a book in my house. OUCH:

I am a student and I work full-time, so I am going to commit to 30 minutes. Not sure I can find more time than that.

I love to walk....just don't make it a priority.

Hi there! Thanks for joining me in getting started. I'm battling a nasty cold, so once i can breathe again, I plan to get in my first walk. Hopefully tomorrow. Looks like you're both outside walkers too? Are you walking at a specific pace, or just concentrating on getting in the 30 mins? I am just planning to walk the 30 mins for right now and worry about speed later.

Let's keep each other posted on how our walks are going. It's nice to be able to support one another to meet our goals.

I love to walk too normally, but we are under a ton of snow and the roads and sidewalks are beyond treacherous!! I have been walking to one of Leslie Sansones DVD's for 30 min at a time - may I still join you??

Well, my goal was to start today and YAY!! I did!!
I was planning on 30 minutes and ended up walking 50 minutes.
I ended up walking 2 1/2 miles.

How are we gonna track to 1,000 miles? Any easy ideas?

Also, what is the time frame to walk the 1,000 miles.

BTW....I enjoy the Leslie Sansone videos for walking and also my Wii!!

The weather was so nice today(for winter, at least- 35 degrees Fahrenheit) that I got about 2 hours total with all 3 of my dogs. My feet hurt from the boots I'm using though... I can't wait until it becomes warm enough that I can go out in some proper shoes, or my favorite, barefoot.

As for pace/mileage, I really have no idea! Relatively speaking, I walk very quickly(definitely not a leisurely stroll) but I have no idea how to calculate miles walked or the specific speed I'm going.

I'm looking forward to the evening light returning. I do walk 2 hours on Saturday and on Sunday... today the weather was great. Hope to get more days in soon. I've gotten to the point now where I can just be mulling things over in my mind, then suddenly realize I've 45 minutes out and the first half is nearly over.

Count me in! I love to walk, and weather permitting I usually walk 5 to 6 times per week. My monthly goal is to walk 80 miles, and then all the snow and ice happened. I am at 40 miles for this month.

I lowered my goal to 15 miles per week during these winter months, I will meet it tomorrow

I usually walk 4 miles, 60 minutes.

Most of last year I walked 2k (yes, I measure them in kilometers) 4 times a week, then got up to 3k, and one weekend tackled a 5k (that was just the distance, it wasn't a "5k race" or anything).

Then in November it got dark too early to do anything after work, and I quit the weekends, too. And I quit losing weight once I quit.

I've started back up slowly. Did a short 1k for a week or so, and now back to my 2k walks (about 23 minutes, some of it uphill). I hope to get back to 3k soon, which will also get me back to a walk that's more than 30 minutes. Whether I do more than my usual 4 times a week will depend on other things, but at least 4 times a week is my plan.

And my ultimate goal will be the "Vineyard Run" in October (in Grapevine, Texas), which is a 5k walk/run. I'd love that. I'd get a T-shirt and everything!

I just bought an elliptical trainer today - I have been looking at them and at treadmills for the horrid indoor months of winter. I really scored too - Zellers had one that I really liked for $249.00, it has a really short stride like I do - it was on clearance sale today for $72.00

Good for you, Tea Granny! I love my elliptical machine. I use it often.

My cold is almost all gone and I was able to get in 30 mins on my elliptical. No walking for today, but I'm hoping to do it tomorrow.

Hope you're all doing great with your walking...

Another 30 mins on the elliptical for me again today. Sadly, I haven't gotten in a walk since I started this thread.

Hope you're all doing well.
