Default TOO MUCH sleep?

I always hear about people not getting enough sleep, but Im afraid I have the opposite problem...
About 5 days of the week I am either working my 13 hour shifts as a nurse which is crazy, running around non stop, or Im at school, cramming for a test, etc- and on those days I get around 6-8 hours of sleep-
If Im in the middle of those busy days & get 8-9 hours of sleep, I feel fantastic, but, for example, yesterday I went to school, had my final then went to work right after. I was so exhausted by the time I got home I fell asleep at 10 & didnt wake up til 9!! I even set my alarm clock for 7 to no avail. It just sucks cause I hate wasting my life/days away sleeping, and I wish 7 hours could be enough!
Anyone else have this issue/ways to deal with less sleep?? Everyone says it'll allll change once I have kids haha

7-9 hours of sleep is recommended, and it looks like most days you're within that, correct? Just some days you're extra tired, so you get extra sleep. Unless you're sleeping in so much and so late that you're consistently late for things you need to do, or missing them entirely, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

All through middle school and highschool, I averaged about 4-5 hours a sleep each night, with some days where I'd stay up for days on end, because I didn't want to waste my time sleeping. Now that I get 7-9, with the occasional day where I sleep 10+, I feel a lot better than when I was trying to restrict my sleep.

7-9 is GREAT! If you are only sleeping in extra every once in awhile, that is okay =) You must've been EXHAUSTED! Nothing wrong with that!

It's your 13 hour shifts seriously...I used to work 12 hours 4 on and 4 off and my four days on I'd be dead tired and exhausted so my first two days off would consist on catching up on sleep. I work 8 hours shifts now up at 5 and I get between 7 to 8 hours a night and so far I seem to be okay with it. I find it easier to wake up a 5 then I would if it was 6am...doesn't make sense I know. lol.

I would say it's the amount you have going on as well that's affecting how tired you are. You work long shifts plus you're going to school/doing other stuff. You're a busy bee!!!

I typically get about 8-9 hours of sleep a night, but I do much better when I'm running on 6. It's just how my body is.

True- I always think I would hate 8s cause then you only get two days off- we'll see when I'm done with school if Im less tired- if not, who knows I may try to find a place that has 8s!

I often sleep for 12 hours at a time. Now THAT'S a problem

9 hours is a GREAT number for a 20-something.

Ha, my goal is to sleep as much as possible this winter. Too cold to be awake! Especially in my apartment where the electric baseboards are all placed right under the windows that you can feel the cold air coming through.

I wish I would turn into a bear so I could hibernate.

You should get as much sleep as your body needs, though. If you're exhausted and you don't give your body the time it needs to rest, you'll just keep being exhausted. You don't want to be constantly fighting your body about sleep, it's no fun at all. Since it's not affecting your ability to be the places you need to be, and you're not consistently sleeping for large amounts of time, I'd really recommend just being happy that you can afford to get as much sleep as you need.

A lot of people ask me why I prefer 8's but the truth is I love it, 2 days off is enough for me 4 days off I get bored and I'm dating and most people I know have regular monday to friday jobs, so to date on rotation sucks and 4 days off I never got into a regular sleeping pattern I always screwed it up. Thats just me though. The only time 4 on and 4 off is good for 12 hours is when you take 4 days off for holiday and you get 12 off instead of just 4. haha

Your sleep schedule looks awesome. I wish I could get that much! I used to be a marathon sleeper, now not so much. Guess it goes away with age Anyway, savor it while you can...

I have this sme issue too. It comes and goes. Ill have some days where I HAVE to be up at 5:30 but Ill sleep right through my 3 alarms and get up at 7 and have to scramble to get ready for work. I had a very set schedule otherwise. When I started dieting I got REALLY tired. I felt great during the day but some weeks I was just exhausted more than others. It was really crazy. I added some more food and proteins in to my diet after I told my doctor and it seemed to help. I dont jump out of bed at 5:30 anymore but Im at least waking up with the first alarm.
