Default 32% of goal left to go . . . :?:

so why does that seem to unrealistically far away?

Really . . . . I've lost 70 lbs of the 103 I want too . . . 33 lbs left to go . . . how come that 33 looks so much bigger and harder to accomplish than the 103 I started at?

Is that a normal reaction or am I one of the few that has that warped way of thinking?

Of course . . . I could just be frustrated from everything else that seems to be going on, when it rains it pours.
Boo.

I think a lot of us just get to that point of 'oh my gosh, I still have that much to lose?' I know it happened to me! Keep pushing through and the feeling will go away- if you're like me, it'll come back again, like every five pounds- at least that's the way it was the closer and closer I got/get. So I just re-set myself some. I would be like ok, I need to get down one pound at a time, it will come, I can do this, I can make this happen!!!

Hi'
I wish I was 2/3s of the way!!! I figure I am half way. 45 LBS. I agree they seem so much bigger than the first 45 because I am having to work a lot harder for every LB now. Plus my body seems less forgiving. I eat too much salt up goes my weight. Too many carbs up it goes. Constipated up too. But I'm consoling myself with this. Every LB now is bigger in that it shows more and will continue to get bigger as I get closer to my goal. Also I think maintenance will look really similiar to what I am doing now as I have lost and regained multiple times in the past and it's even obvious to me that what I think is normal packs on the LBS. So I quess I am grateful that I still have a lot to lose as I am determined to stick with it. I would guess that a year from now I will still be losing as I am losing less than a LB per week now. I think for me losing is easier than maintenance or GAINING which would have been a more adequet way to describe it as I don't think it was ever maintenance.

Completely normal You just need to take a deep breath and plod on.

Thankyou for posting about %% though, it made me go and look.

Of my interim (January 19th) goal, I've lost 87.5%.
Of my long range goal, starting from HW to 1lb less than the last I got to, I've lost 71%.

On the other hand, where I get a bit sighing, is that to make the long range goal, I need to lose....(does maths)...Spooky, 71% of what I've lost this year. I am very pleased with what I've lost this year - but to get to the top end of 'normal', I need to do 3/4 of it all over again.

So I hear you when you sigh!

I think because those last 33 pounds are harder to lose. I know what you mean.

My ticker goal is 135, but my real mental hang up goal is 145, just over 10 pounds away and I simply can not get there. It's so close I can taste it! So yeah, it's frustrating. But it's frustrating in a much different way. The patience is taking its toll and I want to buy clothes! I can't do that until I settle in. At 235 pounds I knew I had a long way to go and I knew it was going to take a long time. Now I've reached that "Any day now" stage.

I know how you feel and I'm WAY further out than you are. I think you'll always have times where you feel like you'll never get it done, that it's so far away, etc. I posted about a similar problem and a 3FCer told me that it might help to focus on what you've already done in a visual way instead of focusing in an abstract way on what you have ahead of you.

OP, I know how you feel. Some days I'm like, "I have 30+ pounds to go?!?!?" And it seems so far away. But then I try to think about what it was like 30 lbs earlier than now. I was still obese, and now I'm on the cusp of normal weight. That usually helps a ton.

Or I have the opposite problem. I look at myself, see too much fat still (in my torso, especially), and wonder if those last 30+ lbs will be enough.

But you've lost SEVENTY pounds. That is amazing! You know how to do this, you can do this.

Anyway, that's the pep talk I give myself when I'm feeling that way. You'll do great!

And congrats on your loss so far!

It's an interesting perspective, but I imagine the anticipation of being so close to finishing is making you feel restless and so close/so far away from your goal. At heavier weights we expect a long journey, but it takes a lot of perseverence to stick it out to goal, when the losses slow.

At least it takes smaller losses to see a difference at smaller sizes. If it took the same amount of pounds to go down a size at a lower weight AND you had the typical slower weight loss at the end, it would be doubly frustrating. I know for me, I am still dropping sizes faster now than I did in the beginning, even though I was losing faster then.
