Default Your body-image realty check

I found this in a book so go Head and try .... you will be . Most of us see ourself bigger than we really are .

I going to write how they explain in the book:

Are there major gaps between perception and reality in how you see your body?
Do you send your body secret messages that are helpful or harmful?
To find out, do these exercise:

Check your perceptions .

Take a 3-foot length of string and use a pappier clip to mark off how much you think you'd need to encircle you waist.Next , wrap the string around your waist and measure the actual size whit another paper clip.
Then use a measuring tape to gauge both lengths and jot them down in the chart below. Repeat this exercise on your hip, bust, and thoughts.

------------------------ GUESS HOW BIG IT IS ------------- MEASURE
YOUR WAIST:
YOUR HIPS:
YOUR BUST:
YOUR THIGS:

Fun! Thanks for sharing. I guessed right (or within an inch) on my waist, hips and bust but I guessed like 3 inches too small on my thigh. Very interesting exercise.

I am willing to bet that even when I lose the weight I will probably still think of myself as the size I am now. I am not that far from my starting weight.

WOW! I was off by 5-10 INCHES!
It reminds me of an exercise we did in a body image class I was in where we were given a piece of paper our height and were to draw our shape on it. Then someone traced us on the paper in a different color. Almost everyone drew too big!
Thanks for sharing!

When I was in treatment for my eating disorder my therapist had me do this exercise. Except she gave me a loooong piece of yarn and scissors. She had me guess how much it would take to go around my waist. I guessed and cut. Then she had me find our the reality by putting that piece around my waist. I was WAAAAYAYYYYY off. Then she tied it in a circle and had me wear it around my wrist to remind me that my body image is still developing and was pretty skewed for the time being.

I'll NEVER FORGET that day.

I have ABSOLUTELY no idea what my measurements are and I don't really mean to find out because I'm just happy checking on my weight. Hahaha!

But when I make it to my goal weight I will do this. Hopefully I will perceive myself as skinny as I'll be. I don't want to be skinny and think that I'm fat because I've been there, and it sucks... and now I wish I were that skinny!

Even if you don't want to measure the length of the string, it sounds like a good idea just to see how far off your perception is!!

I might try this tomorrow.
