Default How much should I drop my calories

I'm beginning my 4th week calorie counting. I lost no weight this week. I have lost 6 lbs before that. Shoud I drop just 100 or more calories this week. I am striving for that comfortable 1-2lbs per week. I started at 1700 on the advice of websites and others on here. Thanks.

Honestly, I would leave it for a couple more weeks, if you don't lose any more in that time, then tweak it. Hormonal changes, stress, water retention due to heat, all these will affect weight loss. You don't want to go too low in calories too soon or you'll have no wiggle room later.

I think you could either wait, as CanadianCutie suggested, workout more to burn an extra 100 calories a day, or cut it down by 50 calories and workout more. I think 1700 calories is very reasonable. Because I'm impatient (not a good thing with weight loss), I'd probably cut down by 100 calories and work out more, drink my water and look at my sodium intake. Congrats on already losing 6lbs.!

Okay. I'm not patient either but I am trying to be for the first time in my life. I'm going to stay the course and keep my head up. I did just look at my calender and I'm due tomorrow so that could be it. I didn't think about it. I will stay here at this calorie level for 2 weeks more and then reevaluate. Thanks for the advice.

you should increase your calories not drop them, most people will looose weight using your body weight X10 for example if you weigh 150 lbs it would be 150 X 10= 1500 calories. if you drop to 1600 calories now at your weight how many calories could you eat at 150lbs ?

Oh gosh, don't raise them! I think 1700/day is perfectly reasonable. PMS/TOM almost aways causes a slight stall followed by a nice enjoyable "WHOOSH". Just keep doing what you are doing. 6 pounds in 3 weeks is an average of 2 pounds per week...so you are still on target.

Thanks, Lori. That was my thought about raising them. I do appreciate the input nitenurse. I'm going to give it 2 more weeks regardless of what the scale says next week, before I chane anything. Just in case the "whoosh" is running late! LOL!!!

In some cases adding calories can help. I lost 80+ pounds before and I am here to loose school and baby weight again. If you are not eating enough calories your body will go into starvation mode and hang onto the fat. It is our natural way of survival. Although this is probably not the case this time. Also keep track of your inches, on weeks where you do not lose any weight you may loose inches. Just passing along some advice that helped me when I was on here a few years ago.

Hi Kmac. Some weeks the scale is a real pain in the neck, isn't it? I think you should just keep on keepin' on. It's the overall trend you're interested in, not an off week. You'll probably have some weeks in the future where you can't explain a much bigger loss than you've "earned". And I agree with CanadianMom that keeping track of your inches can really help in the slower weeks. But 6 pounds in a month - woot!

I highly suggest starting a journal tracking everything you're feeling, TOM, stress, exercise, etc. You'd be suprised what effects your loss and often you need to do nothing to your cals but be patient. There may come a time in which you do need to drop your cals, but if you start increasing your exercise don't be suprised if you have to increase them. I've actually had to continual increase my cals as I've lost because I've become more and more active. I'm a little bit of an exception rather than the rule, but it does happen. Better to burn the fat than to starve it. Unfortunatly it's all trial and error, but one week with no loss is certainly not a time to panic. Just to give you and example. I used to lose 2xs every week for a long time. Then at some point my weight loss became directly related to TOM and ovulation and now I only lose 2 weeks of the month but I lose 2-3 lbs each of those weeks. So my best advice to you is to be patient. You didn't gain it overnight you would lose it that way either. It's taken me 4 1/2 years to lose 120lbs and I'm glad cause I've really learned some new habits, I still have to work at them everyday, but they're there. Goos luck!

Good advice ncuneo. I journal everything I eat but not how I feel. That's a good idea to start. This time around I am going to be gentler to my body and forgiving and patient. I'm feeding it the good food it deserves and letting it set the pace for weight loss not my ideas. I would like to average 1-2 lbs per week (4-8lbs a month) so I will chart over time before I change anything. It may take a bit to see just what works for my body. I'm going to be patient this time!!!
