What things have you tried that aren't worth the calories that you spent on them?
Yesterday, I tried a 140 calorie Breyers chocolate chip yogurt snack. It tasted "okay". But when I want something sweet, "sinful" or filling, yogurt doesn't really do the trick. I need something substantial in my mouth! I just decided to leave those for the kids and have something different next time.
solo pizzas... surely they are perfect if you want a taste of pizza, but after my last experience (spending my 500kcals dinner on one and then starving half an hour later), i'd rather just go without!
Annie, I have been getting the Yoplait low fat yogurts in all the new flavors (apple pie, boston cream, etc) and I'll put them in the freezer about an hour before I want to eat it. That way it gets frozen and it feels more like a sinful icecream dessert than just a yogurt.
I have gotten to the point where Lean Cuisine meals are not worth it. I still have some that I keep at work for days I forget to bring something. But most times they just don't cut it for the calories they offer. I'm always still hungry after eating those.
I probably could come up with a whole list full of things too.
Bagels. I used to buy Sara Lee honey wheat bagels (270 cal) and use 1tbsp of honey nut cream cheese (45 cal). I had to stop because I was starving less than an hour after eating it.
I have found that oatmeal works much better to satisfy me
multigrain cheerios too!
Andrea - Thomas's Bagel Thins. They are 110 cals (they have a multi grain too). That, plus 1/4 cup egg white scrambled, a little bit of cheese and that's my breakfast. (plus banana).
I don't really buy "diet products" but I have bought reduced calorie mayo (blech!!) and 45 calorie per slice 100% whole wheat bread (not too shabby) and some things I have looked at and they just aren't worth the cash!
Sandwich thins, enough in a package to make 8 sandwiches, 100 cals each. Almost $4 at my stores.
My 45 cal/slice bread, 20 ounce loaf, more than 11 sandwiches (I eat single slices so I can't really count until I buy a new loaf) less than $3. That's less cals than the sandwich thins for less money. . .
The last time I had a "treat" it wasn't worth it and I regretted it. I took my children out for ice cream at a variety store after our mini golf game. The kids picked a new cookie dough flavored drumstick. It was 290 calories and not on my plan but I hadn't had a good treat in awhile and it sounded really good. I got the ice cream and was disappointed to find there were only 5 small pieces of the so called cookie dough and the rest was sickeningly sweet. I felt tired and sick afterward. So much for that "treat"
I've been setting aside enough calories for a small dessert most nights, usually 120-160 calories for 1/2 cup light ice cream or a light ice cream sandwich. I've decided it's not really worth it. I'd rather have 1 cup of really good ice cream once a week than 1/2 cup of the light stuff every day! So that's my new plan (once I detox from total overeating on vacation...)
I had two scoops of Coldstone Creamery ice cream on a waterpark visit last week that I later calculated to be between 1000 and 1200 calories, according to their US website. (I had it in my plan, because I knew there was no outside food allowed at the waterpark, and I wasn't hungry afterwards, probably because of the colossal amount of fat in it. Seriously, 500+ calories for a scoop of ice cream???) It was good, but not 2/3 of my regular daily calories good.
Now a good mojito (173 cal) made with your own fresh mint, after a 114-degree day and a good resistance workout, now THAT'S some bang for your calorie buck. I don't care what they say about alcohol and weightloss. That's positively medicinal.
Chocolate-glazed honey bunn. Ate it so fast, I barely had time to taste it, and I was still able to put away a cookie and lunch without filling full at all. Yep. I'm bad.
