Default Counting Avocados

How do you all count avocado when you eat it? I have found that different places give different calorie counts.

I weigh mine and count them in ounces based on what Fitday assigns for the calories. One half of an average sized Hass avocado is usually about 2 oz, which is 91 calories on Fitday.

That's really hard to say because it is so high calorie and clearly varies depending on size and breed I guess! I typically just avoid them. It would probably be safe to indicate that the average medium sized avocado is 350 calories. Better to go with the higher end of the calorie spectrum.

Just weigh the inside of it. Not counting the skin or pit it's 1.66 calories/gram

grams grams grams - for everything! Seriously I thought this was ridiculous when I first started counting - thought it was obsessive, but you'd be amazed how much more accurate and how much more food you get sometimes when you use grams. Today I measured a cup of snow peas and then I thought hmmm...let's check the grams and I got to add so many more peas! But again the counts are different, I have found different numbers for avocado and so I estimate a little high, I go 2 cals per gram. So just use your best judgement. Oh btw I don't use grams for everything, literally, just when it makes sense. Obviously liquids use cups

Not me! I use the food scale for absolutely EVERYTHING! Liquids, too! I tare the scale and weigh a glass of milk. Tare the scale and weigh my salad dressing.

If you are clever with zeroing out the scale you can never get another measuring sup or spoon dirty for the rest of your life!!

In the meantime, 1 oz = 28.34 grams. So an ounce of avocado would be about 57 calories.

My scale is from Walmart too, same price, PRICELESS in the way it really helps with calorie counting! I love it, especially the tare feature. I mostly use grams too. I would much rather use a scale than cup measuring, especially for veggies and bulky foods that never fit in a cup.

Don't avoid avocados!! Eventhough its worth a lot of calories it is priceless in the valuable nutrition in imparts on your body! Use it instead of mayo on a sandwich for example.

I use a food scale for everything and measure everything in grams. It is no holds barred the only way to keep a truly accurate account of what you're eating. Even if a slice of bread is marked as 120calories per slice I STILL weigh it and find that sometimes it weighs less, sometimes more. A little package of Total Greek Yogurt 2% says that the package has 200g of yogurt in it, but the most I've gotten out of those packages is 188g! Every gram counts to me.

I would never avoid avocados because of their caloric content because there is some excellent fat in avocados. I just go by what calorie king says and weight them. 5 ounces is about 234 calories. Yum.
