Default Need some advice on exercising

Hi everyone!

Okay, so I started my "lifestyle change" last week, and I have become OBSESSED with working out. The only downside, however, is that I broke my ankle (which is also another reason for the weight gain) on Christmas 2009, so I am still somewhat in the healing process. Exercise videos that incorporate cardio and weight training have become my favorite type of exercise, but I have found that it really makes my ankle hurt and swell really bad during and afterwards. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for some exercise I could do that would elevate my heart rate and help me to lose weight fast, but does not put so much stress on my ankle? Thanks for any advice!! =)

P.S. Sit-ups hurt my back too much! So that's not really an option either.

Water stuff -- water aerobics, swimming, etc.

Have you tried an exercise bike?
My brother's doctor recommended that for him (he has ankle troubles).

I'm dealing with an ankle problem as well, though I'm lucky enough not to have broken mine. I have tendon/ligament problems from overtraining. I would run instead of starting with a walk/jog program to ease myself into it. Now, every time I try to start running again, I manage to hurt my ankle and have to stop for another few weeks. I agree with the swimming and biking. They non-impact and will be the easiest on your foot. Good luck : )

Do you access to a rowing machine? It's a good cardio as well as resistance workout. You sit so your ankle would not be affected.

I use an Elliptical because I had a Jones Fracture a couple of yrs ago and really messed up my foot (6 months casted and then physical therapy) so after doing a lot of exercise etc my foot really aches and swells.

Thanks for all of these wonderful ideas! We have a YMCA locally that has a pool, so I may need to look into membership there.

Tomato, I have never heard of a rowing machine, but I will look into it!

Thanks again to everyone! I am excited to try some of these ideas! =)

I didn't see this, so I'll add to the suggestions

Boxing? Like shadow boxing with weights? That really gets my heart rate up and it's great for sculpting the shoulders.
