Question Switching Calorie Amounts?

First of all, Hi everyone!
Im new on here & today is my "day one" of my weight loss lifestyle change- Im nervous Im gonna fail somehow, but at the same time determined that this is it...

My plan is to cut calories & exercise 30min-1hr 4x/week. Since I've got a lot of weight to loose, I am starting at 1800 cals & gradually decreasing.

I read a post the other day that someone increased their calories to help them out of a plateu, and I was thinking of the common exercise videos how they work so well by tricking your body- I had an idea- Im sure others have thought of it, so I figured I'd ask if it works before I try it for myself- But I was thinking of like 2x week eating 1800 calories, 2x eating 1600, 2x eating 1200 & once eating 2000?... Would that help you lose weight by your body not thinking your starving therefore not retaining fat?....

Thanks everyone & Nice to "meet" you!

heya!!
what you're thinking of doing is called "calorie cycling", and yes, it does work.
you might feel the need to tweak it as you go, but many people swear by it

good luck on your journey

That sounds like a GREAT idea! I am new to calorie counting, have been using the site on about . com for that purpose and I've been shooting for 1400 cals per day. I'm doing well on my weight loss but if I start to not do so well I might want to try something like this. Glad you made the choice the come today and change your life too. These boards are awesome!

Calorie cycling definitely works- but the 1200 seems to low imo- I'd change them to 1400 calories and I wouldn't work out those days.

It's called caloried cycling or zig zagging. I've been doing it for months and it works wonderfully. Check out the calorie calculator on freedieting.com and click on the 7 day zig zag after you enter your info and it gives you a break down of how to cycle your cals.

It totally works! I agree, though, your low day should probably not be that low. I'd say 1400-ish. Your first couple months see how many calories you can get away with eating and still lose weight! As you get lower in weight you'll probably need to lower your calories and if you start too low, you won't have anywhere to go. I'd even play around with going a tad higher on your high days to start with.

I started at your weight and even now my high days are 1700-1750. My low days are 1400.

You'll just need to see what your body likes. But if you are going to exercise as much as you plan, you can afford to go a bit higher.

Ok, so in your first sentence you say you're nervous you're going to fail. Check in here EVERY DAY! Several times a day if you can. This site is sooooo motivating, it is one of the big reasons I've succeeded in this! That and our Daddy King!!
