Default sports bra rash

i didn't have this problem before but I've recently started running for longer and now I'm getting this painful rash line under my chest where my sports bra hits! it creates this bright red line that doesn't go away for a while. Does anyone know what it is? I get it with different sports bras and I'm thinking it might be that they need to be tighter so they won't move at all in that area. But I'm unsure if its tightness bc some of my bras feel pretty tight. Anyone have any suggetions or have dealt with this?

I dont know anything about actual rashes just caused by sports bras rubbing but I know there is a rash you can get that is a fungus...kind of from sweating and stuff.. a lot of women get it between their boobs... and that is cleared up with an antifungal... its kind of on the same page as athletes foot

Sounds like chafe to me. Put some Body Glide on to prevent it.

Get a sport bra that breaths/wicks away sweat better and try to keep it dry until the redness and pain clears up. Best to let it heal before doing heavy sweating workouts.

It sounds like the heat rash I got while watching over a group of girls scouts in a camp with no a/c down here in florida, hot and sweaty with no relief in sight, and oh god did it hurt!!!

Here's a helpful article:

http://www.buzzle.com/articles/heat-rash-treatment.html

Oh, and an antifungal cream might work on it if it is something like a yeast skin infection like Haley says. But it doesn't sound like it's that if it goes away on it's own within a couple weeks.

Hope this helped.

I used to get that. Just wash it with warm water that night and in the morning. It should fade almost immediately.

I'm with Zan on it sounds like heat rash. Maybe you're having a small reaction due to the sweating not the rubbing per say.

What Haley is describing is scabies (sarcoptic mange)...not as scary as it sounds..but unless you're having alot of itching at night under your breasts, behind your knees, at your elbows, then I would say it's related to your sports bra..maybe try one that latches at the front so its distributing the weight better?

As a bigger busted girl I've had this problem. Sometimes from working out and a few time when the weather is unbearably hot and you're sweating a lot. I started putting deodarant in the spots where the rash would show up (before working out and on super hot days). Between the boobs, lift them up and under them and around the bottom band of my bra. Of course I'd get the rash healed up before I started doing that. NOt sure how a rash would react to deodorant on top of it.

Oh, GutterGirl78, I am pretty sure it would BURN... I am wincing in sympathy at just imagining it. Best to let heal.

Body Glide or the Bandaid equivalent might help. I get the same thing sometimes after I run.

I agree with the body glide- also some people tape up the areas that chafe before a run so it won't be rubbed raw.

Pinkberry- I wasnt talking about scabies

Scabies is a skin mite not a fungal infection

Scabies is caused by an organism (similar to ringworm), where as a fungal infection can occur by all of the heat/rubbing/moisture when you run and sweat at the same time. As Haley said, its common for women to get that kind of infection in their boobular area, just because of the pressure/tension/moisture that always happens due to our bra wearing.

the chafing sounds like the most likely thing to me because I'm actually sweating less and not as hot as when i was working out a month or so ago. and it doesn't seem like a fungus to me, just rubbing. i used some unscented lotion on it and that seemed to help. i'm going to look into that body glide, thankyou so much everyone for the advice.

Yes, this is true however it was my intention to explain scabies. Especially if she was itchy under her boobs. That's one of the things im always worried about getting though I do work with animals so my rate of getting it would be higher than the avg person. Ringworm however, is a fungal infection and not an actual worm. I would be worried about getting that at the gym even more so than scabies.
