Hi Melissa - WELCOME

You've definitely come to the right place, feel free to post everywhere and anywhere - I've been on here for over a year now and lost 19lbs so far... (slow but sure is the way I like to look at it!!).

I too have PCOS (was diagnosed about 6 years ago now) I am at WW (joined about 6 weeks ago) and doing is nice 'n' steady. Have been thinking about 'doing' this Atkins diet for a while now any advice?

Good luck.

Hello,
Thanks so much for the kind replies...I have actually just started doing atkins so I am not sure yet if its working...I have friends that have been very successful at though...I will keep you posted...I think my mistake in the past is trying to lose to fast and than getting discouraged when it doesn't happen...Slow and steady wins the race they say...

Defiantely a small world...Usually I have to explain where Sidcup is to people...

hiya
I love this board!!! So much useful info...I have a ?? for you Toryah, or anyone else who is in the UK that has pcos: Have you tried Glucophage or any other conventional meds for pcos? I had thought of trying it, but wasn't sure if it was available here because when I saw my gp she just wanted to give me birth control pills and made it seem that there were no other options...Any thoughts?

Thanks

I'm no Dr but Glucophage is the brand name for Metformin which is usually prescribed to tread diabetes. When I was diagnosed some years ago I was prescribed Dianette which is a birth control pill and did seem to work with all the symptoms of PCOS, but as my husband had been neutered!!! it seemed ridiculous to keep putting all these 'false' hormones in my body. I was told by a specialist that PCOS is a hormone imbalance and the best thing to take if you want to right yourself is the hormones that you lack and the best way of doing that is the pill! I don't know if that's of any help Melissa but if anyone else has any advice I'd love to here it too...

Actually the metformin has had some really good results with pcos because researchers think that insuline resistance could play a part in it...I can't take birth control pills because it causes my blood pressure to go up so I am investigating alternatives...I am doing herbal remedies at the moment, which seem to be working but am curious about experiences other may have had with something else.
