Talking Does anyone have any tips for cravings in the evening??

I'm on a 1200 calorie diet. Gradually over the last few months I have been decreasing the ammount of calories I can consume in a day as I wanted to 'step up' my diet.

I'm actually doing very well on it, as I did the process slowly and so it wan't so much of a shock to my body.

Anyway, I'm ok throughout the day, I'm busy and even before I started my healthy diet and excercise 6mths ago, I didn't eat too much during the day.

I have filling breakfast, lunch and dinners and fruit as snacks....but it's just the evenings!! If I'm busy with college or other things- I'm ok!

But them evenings when the kids are in bed and everything's 'calmed down' I just get awful cravings for chocolate! I'm not hungry. I know that.

I've tried water, fruit, raisins, Ryvita crisp bread (these seem to work a bit) but nothing quite hits the spot!! lol

Any ideas of really low cal choccies?? Please bear in mind that by the evening I only have about 100 calories to play with, left over
I'm in the UK

Perhaps, chocolate if that's what you crave and can eat a small portion.
I can take a Ghiridelli dark chocolate square and break it into 10-12 miniscule pieces and savor each one of them. These are about 55 calories each. Surely you have something similar there.

My favorite evening snack is a low sodium V8. The 11.5oz can is only 70 calories and I feel completely full after drinking it.

I like a hot bath. I then slide in bed around 8pm, watch tv and doze off at 8 or 9pm. I'm a loser I know, but I love going to bed and getting up early. I really need my quiet time in the morning.

I chew gum, brush my teeth, or go to bed early and read a book.

[QUOTE=rockinrobin;3185754]I have a 25 calorie Hot chocolate every evening. The brand is Swiss Miss - don't know if it's available in the UK.

Me too, me too!!!!! These have saved me on many a night!

I also do hot decaf herbal tea. It hits the spot.

Mostly, I try to "save" calories so that I have some available for an after dinner snack. Often, I'll make a low-cal dessert, or air-pop some popcorn. Another thing I've been munching on at night is some whole grain cereal for the "crunch" it provides. Or I'll have a low cal frozen ice cream treat.

Good luck combatting the evening munchies! I get these quite often! My best advice is to just plan to save some calories for just this purpose.

I mix some unsweetened cocoa into plain yogurt with a little Splenda. It's very satisfying.

Hi all, thanks for all your suggestions!! Much appreciated!

I have found my 'treat' and it defo curbs my pangs. It's peanut butter and sliced banana on a Ryvita cracker. It's fab!

I know it's not chocolate, but I think it's better in my opinion as I'm actually getting some nutrients out of it. It's about 114 calories if you put one teaspoon of peanut butter over the ryvita, but I found that wasn't enough. So I calculated that a little extra brings it up to approx 140-150 calories (probably less, I also tally higher). Which sounds alot, but considering a bar of chocolate, which has no nutritional benefits at all, has double that, it's defo a healthier option.

Well, tasty and hits the spot- big time ;D

One low-calorie thing that is chocolate-y, would be pudding! You can get some pretty low calorie ones (like 60ish, I think) and they're pretty tasty.

if you really have a hankering for chocolate you could try some Nutella on that banana.

Sugar-free jello and puddings, with sugar free whipped cream. Yes, the contents of these items are questionable, but darn it, they taste soooo good, and can help when sweet and late night cravings occur.

Hummus is also pretty darn good as well---maybe because the protein and carb combo.

And nuts---while they are high in fat and calories, it is a good kind of fat and helps to keep the insulin levels stable.

I spread my 1200 calories over six meals and my sixth meal is an evening meal, so I get to have whatever I want within 200 calories. This works great for me.

Banana with peanut butter is usually my temptation. Don't always have enough calories to have it but when I do...Mmmmm

I would love to be able to eat popcorn but it started making me nauseous a couple years back, haven't been able to eat or smell it without feeling sick. don't know, maybe too many years of enjoying the stuff made my body hate it.
