Default Ketosis Question

Is it possible for your body to be storing or maintaining fat while you're in Ketosis? According to my urine tests, I haven't been out of Ketosis since I've started this diet. But I've been stalled for so long that I'm getting worried.

The sticks may be registering the dietary fat being burned. One of the reasons many people don't rely on them.

Hi Rythm......the individual variations that can happen on Atkins can be very interesting. For me....I HAVE to be in ketosis to be losing weight. If I made a graph, the ups and downs of the lbs. would exactly correlate with the levels of ketosis.

Another really interesting (well..weird, actually) detail....that odd/metallic smell to the urine does not exactly correlate with the level of ketosis for me. It usually does, but not always. I can't figure that one out at all.

Both times I've done Atkins....back in the early 90's and this time....I HAD to be in ketosis for the scale to be going down. I'd love to know what these variations are specifically due to.

I'm still purple, and still 227 pounds. I can't stand it!

When on Atkins, do you need to take calories into consideration? I just read in another thread that you're supposed to take in at least 1200, and all I can manage is 700-800. I can't find any low carb food that's high in calories, except for meats.

You are definitely under consuming your calories. And you should be eating meat. What's wrong with meat? Its what humans have been eating for millions of years.

So could that be why I'm not losing weight? Oh I'm so mad. I wish dieting was simpler.

Nothing, I'm just a picky eater. ;P I eat plenty of it anyway, but I don't think I can handle adding any more of it to my diet. I don't like cheese either, but I eat a little chunk of it each day to fill me up.

When you entered your volumes into the calorie estimator, did you use the correct unit of measure? I don't know how much that would throw it off but I can't imagine you are feeling satisfied on so little.

What's wrong with not eating meat? You don't have to eat meat on Atkins.

I do the math on a calculator with a chart of the food I eat. The chart lists calories and carbs. Maybe I need to check it and make sure the numbers aren't off or anything.

I'm pretty sure I didn't disparage vegetarianism. Rythm seemed concerned about her meat consumption and I wanted to let her know it is probably nothing to worry about.

Oh, I didn't say you were, and I didn't mean to make it sound like you were, just they way you said 'you should be eating meat', I wanted to put my two cents in that it CAN be done without it, just in case she wanted to do so.

Thank you for clarifying. I get a wee bit defensive when I feel this WOE is being vilified. My husband is diabetic and we don't have a lot of choices--low carb is the only way to keep him healthy.

Rythm, how long have you been on Atkins? You say you have been stalled for a long time. How long is that?

I've been on Atkins for 22 days, and I've been stalled for the last ten or so. I know people say it's normal to stall but it's so early that I don't feel like I have everything figured out yet. So it's probably me screwing it up somehow.
