sorry .. didn't want to scare you ... just wanted you to know b/c clorets sugar-free gum was freely allowed (when my hubby did Dr. Bernstein) - especially when bad breath rears it's ugly head during ketosis - I had thought that it would be ok with Atkins - but from reading Dr.Atkins' book & website, I found out otherwise & then looked on the label.

Hmm....trying to go back into my memory to see if I can remember what Dr. Atkins wrote about gum....and I think it was because the sugar-free versions contain sorbitol and sorbitol is a big no-no.

I have to take Vicoden syrup every day and I wonder if I am taking in sugar with it. I guess that's why people call it "sweet, sweet Vicoden".

Honeyb, why do you have to take it as syrup? Vicodin comes in tablets. Does it say on the bottle what they use to sweeten it with?

No and if I recall from my pharmacy days, the stock bottle won't tell you the actual grams but it will be listed in the ingredients. I take the syrup because often the pills are hard for me to swallow and also having a 1T dosage helps me to more accurately adjust it to my needs i.e. 1/3, 1/2, 2/3 or 1T rather than only being able to break the pill in half.

Aha, thanks for the warning...I'll try to keep that in mind. Luckily the gum that I enjoy (stride) doesn't have but one carb per piece...and I don't really chew a whole lot of gum, though I do lovee it
