Default In an effort....

To get myself back on track I have decided to train for my first 5k!

I think I need some kind of goal to work toward and I am crossing my fingers that the excitement I feel right now about getting back on track and training for something sticks!

Anyone have any pointers?

C25k is an amazing program, I would suggest starting there. It's a go at your own pace program, if week 2 killed you, do it again sort of thing. It works you up in intervals to a 5k, and if you have an mp3 player, you can download the program and it will tell you when to run, when to walk, etc.

Cool Running C25k

I agree go with the Couch25k program! Its an awesome intro to running and you it will actually take you right up to your 5k you have planned as its a 9 week program! I would definatley look into the podcasts for it, I find it so much easier for them to tell me when to run and walk rather than looking at a watch. Robert Ulleys are the ones I used.
I am on week 6 and really love it! I am planning on going straight into the next program (one hour runner) so I can do a 10k in May I actually finished c25k last year but didnt have a goal after I was done so just let it slip so goals are good

Thanks for that link! I totally forgot to even add that I am not a runner! I have ran on occasion but I mostly fast walk or do the elliptical as my cardio so I am truly training!

Today was my first day and I did a walk 5min run 3 min combo and that went well!
