Default Chlomid anyone?

Hi after a few horrible months of tests etc, the specialist finally said that all my blood work came back ok and that (after 5 early miscarriages) there is no reason that we cant conceive and to try again!! um i tend to disagree with that as although we have managed to get pregnant there is obviously something wrong....

When i first went there he said it was pcso and got to go along with some tests to see if it was creating killer cells or something then when the blood work came back all of sudden there is nothing wrong and im told that pcso will only hinder pregnancies when you are overweight...not what they said in the first place!

well its been 6 months since we last conceived and im beginning to wonder whether my ovulation is now a little off..i track it with a fertility monitor and have yet to ovulate this month...(day 21!!) so you see its all very odd...

I have read about chlomid...has anyone had this ? does it work? the doc didnt put us on anything because looking at our records we get pregnant easily but obviously the quality of what is going on in there isnt good..im thinking becaue i ovulate too late....

im so confused as i was really hoping for some answers finally and to be put on something that will help ...

I'm so sorry to hear about your losses. I've been through 3 miscarriages, 7w, 8w, and 10w, so I know how anxious yet apprehensive you are about trying to conceive again.

If you feel that you are ovulating late, clomid may or may not be the right choice for your infertility treatment. If you are ovulating late, you may be correct, your egg is not "quality" to sustain a pregnancy although cd21 is still in the "acceptable" range for ovulation. How long are your leutal phases (from ovulation to menstration)? It sounds as if your have a leutal phase defect, which can be treated with progeterone - it will prolong your leutal phase and allow sufficient time for the egg to implant before your body begins menstration. Clomid is sometimes a treatment for this, but the effectiveness is not scientifically proven. The dr had me on 6 rounds of this last year, and it didn't help at all. You can only do a limited number of cycles with this before you have to take a break. Although dr's seem to just prescribe clomid for all infertility, it can also cause irreversible damage to your ovaries, so be careful about using it without proper follow-up w/ your dr or OB.

Baby dust to you!

Hiya thanks for the info...

My Lut can vary although i have seen it as long as 29 days after Ovulating!
the last few months i ovulated around day 17-18 and then had my period around day 35 ish...so you see its a little messy!! i use the clear blue monitor to test and since last tuesday its been on two bars which means semi fertile or in my guess im not producing a high enough hormone reading for it to detect ovulation...its all about my hormones i think so you may be right about the progesterone..

its just that you kind of expected some answers when you go to the top doc..and i didnt get them..

are there any side effects to progesterone that you know of? i will have a read up on it now...thanks for getting back to me

Kate

I am using a progesterone suppliment (yam-based) from a pharmacy out here that specializes in infertility. (We're going on 2 years here w/ no live births). It does sound like you may not be ovulating every cycle, even though your hormones are ramping up to it. Has your dr ever verified ovulation w/ an ultrasound? They usually do this around the time you are getting a High on your monitor. CBEFM can miss a peak, but I doubt that is what is happening with you at the moment. And believe me - I know how frustrating it is to have no answers. But don't give up hope, either. Have you thought about seeing a different specialist?
Also, have you been tested for PCOS (you mentioned you thought you might have this) or any blood clotting disorders? How about anti-phospholipids? Just a few suggestions. It doesn't sound like your dr is very serious about your miscarriages. Anything over 2 is NOT NORMAL - I don't care what dr's say.

oops- forgot about side effects. There are no real side effects from natural based progesterone (synthetic is BAD but only used for women in menopause). I have found I feel a bit more bloated when I use it, but that could be me "symptom hunting" too every month. It will cause your cycle to start late (usually prescribed for 14 days after ovulation). If you continue to take it, it will delay your menstration - when your body's progesterone drops, it signals the uterus to shed the lining, so even a suppliment will have the same reaction in your body. Some of the meds are messy - I had an "injection" suppository, which reminded me of the tubes of gunk for yeast infections. That had a lot of discharge (sorry if TMI). The last time, I was on a different vaginal suppository, and no discharge (there was no "filler", just the progesterone).

Now clomid..... those are nasty side effects. Whew!

I have an apt with my gp friday to discuss it, although think i may encounter problems as they didnt suggest it when i went to the hospital for all those tests..

at each early misc when i went for early scan they found nothing..no thickness no sign of any pregnancy but yet positive tests for about a week after the loss...

the last one i had an early scan and again nothing to show any signs of pregnancy apart from an positive test.

this shows me something..that pehaps when i catch my body is already getting ready to shed itself..which means that by the time it goes down im on my way to having a period which fits in with that whole thing that you said etc....no indication of any growth because its not had any time to develop or anywhere to go as the lining is coming away....

The more you tell me, the more it sounds like a leutal phast defect, which can be treated w/ progesterone. I would discuss both clomid and/or progesterone suppliments with your dr as a start. They are both inexpensive, before you look at the routes of IUI or even IVF.

well just got in from docs and she was awful, i put to her my concerns about what i think could be happening and also discussed reservations of just getting pregnant again and she couldnt see the point at all...

she simply said that the hosp that i went to were the best and that she was sur e that they would have explored everything and that if there was no news then good news...

my point to her was that i was reluctant to go ahead and try again despite the promises from the hosp that they will see once im pregnant again...
i said that ideally i would like for it to be looked into now rather than go through it again, she simply said that having another miscarriage was one of the risks of trying again..she was so flippant!!

i could have smacked her in the face! she would not listen!

she said that she would wait until she had heard from the hospital with test results and if progesterone wasnt suggested then she would write back asking if it would help?!!!!

this is pathetic....

I'm so sorry hun. I know that there are natural progesterone creams that you are able to get in a health food store such as GNC, but I don't know if you have those over where you are. Make sure it's the NATURAL and not synthetic. It doesn't hurt to use it as it is a natural suppliment in yam root. Also Primrose Oil (also found at a health store) will help in the first 1/2 of your cycle, but you have to be sure to stop taking it when you ovulate.

I hate incompetent dr's. I went to a specialist who was known to be "the best in the area" and he was a terd. He wrote my miscarriages of as "flukes" and told me to wait and see if I miscarried again to run any tests. WHAT? I went to a different dr for a second opinion and LOVE him. Maybe try a different dr and see if they will do testing. After 3 miscarriages, they should be running a slew of tests!
