i know avacados are mucho good for you, as long as its portion controlled. I work at a mexican restaruant called qdoba..any heard of it? Well their guacamole is made fresh every day and with my meals i have about 2-3 oz of it, and its included in my calories (which i dont go over). So i think great! im within my calories and able to eat something that tastes good and is good for me. Well i work 40 hours a week and soo my question is...is it ok to have some guacamole pretty much everyday or 5 or 6 days out of the week? Is it ok to include it as long as its portioned and with in my calories? or would i be over doing it?
As long as you keep it within your calorie allotment (and fat allotment if you also check that) then GO FOR IT! Avocado's are AWESOME for you!!! I had a quarter sliced on to my chicken salad tonight and it was muchly nummy.
As long as you're accounting for them, eating a balanced diet in addition to the avocados what would be the problem? They're a healthy whole food. Good to know Qdobo makes it fresh also!
I LOVE them. LOVE THEM! But for me, I about 1/4 of one, once a week. Simply because they don't fill me up all that much and I need to get more volume from my calories.
As long as you are accurately counting their calories, leaving room for them within your daily budget and you are satisfied with it, then there is no problem with it.
I add avocado whenever I can. Tasty, healthy and filling. What's the point of mayo when you can have avocado?
So true! And you know what drives me crazy? Just crazy? People that add mayo to their guacamole. I was as my SIL's house recently and she was making it and there it went - a huge heaping tablespoon full of mayonnaise - right in the perfectly rich and creamy guac. I thought for sure next she was going to throw in some oil.......

I had always heard that a tablespoon of mayo (jarred, not homemade) keeps guacamole from turning brown, but a splash of lemon or lime juice is supposed to do the same thing (for far fewer calories).
I don't make "smashed" guacamole, I make it like my aunt (from mexico) taught me, in a fresh salsa cubed with peppers, tomato, onion, and cilantro.
Another things that apparently works to keep guacamole from turning brown is leaving the avocado pit in the mixture -- just make sure you don't bite it or you might break a tooth!
