Calorie Friendly Drinking
I need ideas for calorie friendly drinks. My birthday is this month, and I have a number of people coming up to visit. They are expecting the bar scene for my birthday, and I know I'll give in and go. So, I need to prepare ahead of time. I hate beer, and diet soda makes me sick. What are my other alternative for low cal beverages? I've heard grape vodka and club soda is a good combination, but never have tried it.
Ideas? Anyone?

(Insert favorite flavor here) vodka and soda is probably a good bet. Or a glass of something on the rocks to cut out the mixer entirely (like midori or 43 if you don't like the harder stuff)--they're not exactly low-cal but the portion size is smaller than a glass full of coke. How about wine spritzers?

Azulfire - That sounds fabulous - Do you think I could order that at a bar (is there a name for it?).
I'm good with making drinks at home, but I'm not so good with what a bartender can give me. If wine was calorie free I'd be the happiest chicka in the world

It's called the "Cleaner cocktail" in the cook book there is also one that is alcohol free you just exchange the champagne for sparkling water and that one is only 41 calories. And that cocktail is called "Truly clean cocktail" but in a special wine glass you still feel pretty special and festive!!
About ordering it from the bar I would appease the bartender by engaging him some banter asking how his bartender skills are? and if he could make you a special cocktail for your B-day of course take the recipe with you
Happpy birthday!!! and enjoy your day.

i'm with jayohwhy - vodka/club soda/twist of lime. delish!
a few glasses of wine is also not a terrible choice - just drink red and tell yourself it's healthy because of the antioxidants...

or white wine but get half wine half club soda. this is my trick for not getting drunk at alumni functions while still having a drink in my hand.

Vodka is your friend -- for me its more like a frenemy, but you know
Flavored Vodka + club soda +/- lime
Gin tonics as well, if you like the flavor.

A glass of wine is like 80 calories. I used to go out and limit myself to two glasses of wine and then I'd only have 160 calories.
Just avoid things like Margaritas! Actually anything really "frouffy" is probably loaded with sugar and calories.
Just about all alcohol is the same calorie-wise ... 55-70 calories a shot, though I think tequila is about 100 cals a shot. It's what you mix it with that generally notches it up.

I'm a big beer drinker, and usually just drink Coors Light since it's only a bit over 100 calories a bottle...
But since you're not a fan, I agree for going with a vodka/soda mix. A shot of vodka or bacardi is about 60-70 calories, and if you get it with diet coke... it totals out at 60-70 calories.
I drink whiskey sours from time to time, they tend to be about 150 calories, and are a lot like an alcoholic lemonade.

I'm going to a house party tonight since tomorrow is a holidy... taking sugar free grapefruit soda with vodka. I usually just have diet 7 up with vodka.
