Last night's biggest loser really changed things for me. The episode talked a lot about taking personal responsibility, not making excuses and not playing the victim. Listening to Joelle and Aubrey last night making excuses made me realize that I sound EXACTLY like that all the time: I say I do more work than I really do or I exaggerate how well I'm eating. I realized that I really need to take responsibility for my body and the condition that it's in.
SO... this morning, I got up and worked out and came home and ate a healthy breakfast (oatmeal and grapefruit). NO MORE excuses and NO MORE playing the victim and NO MORE placing the blame elsewhere. I'M doing the work!
I agree! When I origionally decided to start losing weight I didn't really mention it to many people because the people I did mention it to gave me the "I'll believe it when I see it" look like I was just all talk, it was upsetting.
Over time I relaized that it was because a lot of people "say" they are going to lose weight but never "do" it, there are millions of excuses people come up with and last nights episode showed that. I found them quite annoying and will definitely not make excuses for myself, I'm going to be a "doer"!
This also reminds me of another thread I was reading about not making excuses for fat loss, if you can find it it's worth a read for sure.
What did you guys think when Jillian said basically that it was B.S. that you could lose inches but not see much difference on the scale?
I don't take my measurements often enough to say that I do lose inches while my weight stays the same, but I know I've seen a lot of threads on here where people have been in plauteau's but still lose inches...
i didnt see it, but based on what you mentioned. maybe she means someone of very high weight, losing inches will have to result in losing pounds.
but if you are within a "healthy weight range" but with a high body fat %, then lowering your body fat, while gaining muscle at the same time will result in a visual difference in the body rather than a smaller number on the scale.
i remember seeing a weight lifting mag, and there was an article with 10 different women, all a healthy weight, but after 90 days of this program, all had significant body changes, but stayed roughly the same weight.
Actually, it bothered me a little that she said that. I am investing in a trainer and JUST LAST FRIDAY I weighed in at two pounds more that the previous week. I held the little thing that tells you your body fat percentage and it was down 2% from last time and the muscle mass was up 1%. I HATE to sound like I'm making excuses because I LOVED last night's episode, but that's what the machine said!! I'm glad I came across this thread today because it's really been bothering me ever since she said that. Maybe it is true, but seeing the numbers on that machine made me react positively instead of getting down on myself and becoming discouraged. I don't know...
YEa I thought it was crap. I mean Aubery lost 2 lbs in addition to keeping off what she had lost at the ranch while at home. Thats all I lost last month so them acting like 2lbs isnt even enough at home kinda ticked me off. She has 5 kids to take care of too! Joelle was at the ranch and lost 0
Also, Jill saying you cant lose inches and no pounds is crap. Then explain to me why jeans fit now that didnt 2 weeks ago though Ive not had a loss on the scale and its actually floated up a pound or two now and then.
Glad someone was inspired by it b/c I wasnt.
I did agree with the whole no excuses things but I didnt feel like she was making excuses.

Agree completely.

See, that's not how I saw it. She wasn't saying it was BS, but just like when the yellow teammember said, "I've been building muscle" and Julian basically called it BS, told her she was making excuses and not to sugarcoat it.
I think the whole muscle building thing gets totally blown out of proportion and just like the "I'm losing inches" it turns into a fallback excuse. Yeah, she only lost 2 pounds and like I said in the other TBL thread, she's busy, has 5 kids and hasn't gotten her food straightened out. It is what it is, but don't cover it up with excuses that are unfounded.
And I can't believe a woman with 5 kids can find time to spend 2-4 hours at the gym everyday. If she can spend all that time at the gym, then she's making time to lose weight. I found the whole thing rather odd. But also as JM said, she's on the ranch now.
your body fat dropped 2% in a week?!?!?!?!? and you gained 1% of muscle mass?!?!?!?!
Sorry, I worded that poorly. I was up 2 pounds since the week before, but the 2% drop and 1% gain were from three weeks before. But yeah, I did loose fat and did gain muscle according to the machine. I've been working really, really hard and some weeks just show up a lot more than others, which gets REALLY frusterating on the weeks that don't go well.
