Is it realistic to think that I can lose 10 lbs a month? And if so, any tips? I would love to be at my goal weight by June...I dream of shopping at hollister again by summer!
In the first weeks of a new plan people can drop 5+ pounds as the body cleans itself of extra water (from excess salt) and carbohydrates; after that the real weight starts to come off much more slowly (1-2 pounds a week). So, yes, it is possible and realistic to lose ten pounds in the first month, but it wouldn't be healthy to attempt long-term. Dropping weight that fast will lose you muscle mass, which sets you up for easy gaining in the future.
Since your goal isn't really to reach a specific weight, but to reach a specific size for the sake of cute swimsuits, I'd set a goal clothing size instead and focus on the exercise.
you should aim for 2lbs a week which will be just over between 8-10lb a month depending on how long the month is. i.e whether it starts on weight day or not
It is possible. But I've noticed that with a lot of ladies here, the less you have to lose, the harder it is. Some only loose a pound or two a month. Just don't get discouraged. With lots of determination I'm sure you'll be satisfied with the results.
i think it all depends on how much of a lifestyle change you're making. if you already eat well and work out regularly, it may be harder but it's still possible!
a few years ago, i was eating crap and never exercised but when i got up and started going to the gym 3 times a week and eating smaller portions, 10lbs melted off instantly. fast forward to today, i eat healthy and work out 5 times a week and it took 3 months to lose 10lbs.
Well for like 6 months I was eating really healthy and going to the gym 3-5x a week, and I went from 184lbs to 163, but then I moved to where there are no gyms, and got stressed out and kind of just started eating and never stopped.... so I guess I would probably be in the middle ground of weight loss where it's not going to take me months, but it's probably not going to leave as soon as I would like...
I've been on plan for 2 weeks and already lost 9.5 pounds, 6 the first week and 3.5 last week but I am fully expecting it to slow right down as my body readjusts.
It can be done, it just may be more difficult than before. a friend of mine is a personal trainer and was approached by an athletic woman about 5'6" 135lbs in her twenties who wanted to lose 10lbs in a month and she did! so if she can, you can and maybe I can too!
with that in mind, there's nothing wrong with slow and steady weight loss, it's more likely to stay off.
At 166, which isn't really obese, just over weight, probably not... Someone who is 250-300 can certainly lose 10 lbs a month, but the lower your weight gets the harder it is to shed. At your weight, which is quite low, I'd kill to be 166 lbs, I would be happy with 1 lb a week... That is a decent rate of loss and your still losing almost 5 lbs a month!
