Unhappy insomnia

I haven't sleeped in a week.... I feel like I might curl up and die. I've been taking fistfull's of OTC sleeping pills like unisom, melatonin, calms forte.... nothing is working. I am prone to panic attacks and now when I lie down at night i just fret about falling asleep to the point where i get horrible butterflies in my stomach. Any one else ever experienced this? Do you think it's time to ask my doctor for anti depressants?

Oh sweetie, don't wait any longer to call your doctor. I don't know if you necessarily need an antidepressant but it sounds like you do need some sort of help/assistance. Its early yet, please call your doctor now. Please let us know what he says.

Good luck !!!!

Insomnia is awful!! I feel your pain. A professor at my college just wrote a book about her experiences with insomnia; she has a website but since I've only got 5 posts, I can't put the address in this message, so just google "sleepstarved" and "gayle greene" and it will come up. It has lots of info about insomnia, insomnia treatment, home remedies and just interesting stuff to read if you're still awake at 4 am. You should check it out...you might find some helpful information there (or at least you'll know for sure you're not alone!).

hmtklein, something you might want to consider is addressing the psychological cause of the insomnia. You might not know what that is. But from my personal experience with insomnia addressing the psychological drivers were far more valuable then any pills or herbs. One they that helped (and is oh so simple) is an energy medicine technique known as TAT acupressure technique or TAPPAS. You should be able to find a free guide for it on the net.

RUN not walk to your nearest Sleep Study Center! There are many, many things that can cause insomnia and interfere with sleep! Sleep apnea in not the only reason to go to a Sleep Center for a study.

I have had insomnia since I was a teen and over the years it just got worse and worse until it got to the point where I hadn't slept more than 4 hours in a stretch in years and years.

I finally went and the results of the sleep study and help with a experienced counselor it has literally changed my life! I can now sleep 9 hours or more straight!

I used to be a walking zombie. I would fall asleep while I was talking with someone. I would fall asleep in my truck at stop lights. ONCE (true story I swear) I fell asleep in a automatic car wash while my truck was being washed and I woke to find a LONGGG line of very PO'D people in line behind me!

There is a lot of help for insomnia now a days that doesn't involve drugs! My biggest regret is I waited 20 years before I sought help!

good luck!
