Default An epiphany.

I have lost 30 lb doing WW but I don't think I'm doing much health wise. Yeah, losing weight is great, but I really need to kick it up and have more healthful food. I tend to go towards highly processed food. I have decided to try and create a fusion of both plans, flex and core. I will allow only whole foods and follow my daily point requirement then use my 35 flex points for whenever.

I think this will balance out nicely and might rev up my weight loss more!

Anyone have any thoughts or opinions?

I think that going towards more whole foods is a great idea. I've done that over the last few years, more out of necessity than choice (avoiding all dairy, soy and MSG cuts out a lot of processed food) and I feel that it is a lot better for my body.

Of course, I was still having huge problems with portion control but now that I'm correcting that, it's working great for me.

Question

I think its a great idea also. I have been eating more whole foods for the last couple months and i feel much better. I have more energy, im loosing weight, and dont get sick as much. although, i dont understand what is wrong with soy? I understand that cutting out processed food is good, but i dont get the whole soy thing?

Oh, the soy is just because I'm nursing my daughter who is allergic to both dairy and soy. I have to avoid both of them so she doesn't get them through my milk.

I've heard of a lot of people doing that. Most call it "flexor," but I prefer the slightly less intimidating-sounding "Floor."

Good luck. It's definitely a good thing to look at health in conjunction with how much you are eating!

Jaime -- about the names -- Flexor? Floor? How about Colex (hmmm, sounds like a medication)?

Anyway, I think it's a great idea, and it's what I do, too. While completely avoiding processed foods is nearly impossible for me, I do avoid them, and cook whenever possible.
Good luck!!

What are some of the foods you eat for snacks while eating whole foods?

When I started ww I was a snack fiend, and not in a good way, lots of processed food. Now my snacks of choice are mostly whole foods. I have cut up carrots, nuts, fruit and yogurt. Don't get me wrong I still like ww candy at a point a piece. I usually have a bit of chocolate every day. But I find myself reaching for healthy snacks more often....I could be changing.

I've been doing this for a little over 3 months now and I'm slowly beginning to wean myself of so many processed foods. There are somethings that will be hard to give up, but in the end will totally be worth it!

I think about eating more healthful foods all the time, because all though I'm succeeding at weight loss, I don't want to eat so much processed food for the rest of my life, or it will probably be a shorter life than I would like. But I've spent so long having an unhealthy relationship with food, just the step of being able to eat a lower level of calories and take control of my habit is a huge one. I'm going to continue to take small steps, to avoid driving myself crazy (and risk giving up!) at a time when I should be celebrating my weight loss

Kelly,

Eat what you like. This is a lifestyle not a diet. We can only succeed if we are satified.

Yep, whole foods is the way to go. IMO, it speeds weight loss and is more filling anyway.

Just wanted to add too-when I first started in May or June I began with tons of processed diet products..I find now I only need a small portion of them to keep me going--I eat the same foods as the rest of my family--just smaller portions and then delete some items when I find it a good idea to do so.
