Default What am I going to do? I just destroyed my ankle :(!!

Owwwwwwwwwww ow ow ow!

I was just doing my nightly DDR and rolled/sprained/annihilated my ankle. I can't even walk hardly at all without so much pain. What am I going to do?? I don't want to not be able to exercise (especially in my preferred form) for god knows how long!

I was just so excited I was going for 30 minutes without feeling tired at all and was feeling so pumped about myself and CRACK! On the floor in agony! Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap.

UGH!!

Same thing happened to me in 2006. It still pops and feels weird sometimes. O_O

There's not much you can do except stay off of it.

have you seen a doctor?

you heard a crack? :O You should probably have that checked. If you get the right support for it then you probably wont have any lasting damage, but you're probably going to have to take it easy for a while at least if you see someone about it they can tel you exercise you can still do

I just did it like 15 minutes before I posted and oh god it's hurting worse and worse and I had to go hobble and get my laundry it was the worst ever. I've never sprained/broken anything before ever and I feel like I am dying. I am home alone too and I've had to hobble around and get ice (frozen bag of corn actually) and some IB but it just keeps intensifying in pain.

I'm so heartbroken I was on such a roll I don't want to stop exercising. >_<

Go see a doctor. You do not want to mess around when it comes to your joints.

The thing is I don't have a car and I'd have to walk to the doctor and my roommate is not going to be here tomorrow I don't think. I'm not even sure if the doctor would be open on a sunday? Will it be fine if I just sit around tomorrow and keep it elevated and iced and then a doctor monday hopefully? The campus buses run on mondays so I won't have to walk to the doctor's... ****, I walk EVERYWHERE! I walk to work, to class, to the store, everywhere, this is going to put a damper on everything!

Thank you guys for your support, I definitely want to see a doctor, no doubt about that. Ugh!

Call someone, anyone, to get you to an emergency/urgent care facility. If it's broken and you wait too long it could start to heal the wrong way.

Good chance you broke your ankle. My DH was playing flag football w/DS and tripped over the dog, twisting his ankle. This was Labor Day weekend. He thought he "sprained" his ankle. Put ice on it and took IB right away, but it swelled 2 days later, so he went to the orthopedist and they xrayed it and he cracked his ankle. He has it in a cast now, walking on crutches/cane for 2 weeks and walking on it for 2 weeks.

Sounds like you are on a campus. Call campus security or helpline and ask them for help - that's what they are there for.

Hope you figured it out yesterday and made it in to see someone.

Also, you can always swim while you heal (with doctor's permission). It may not be your top choice, but it will keep you doing aerobics and on goal.

Default Ouch!

I think sprains suck worse than just breaking the stupid ankle. They had to fuse the bones in my ankle after I shattered it, so I feel your pain. I sprain and/or twist the stupid thing constantly.

DO NOT put icy hot on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just soak it in hot water and epsom salt before bed, and ice it during the day when it swells. Keep an ace bandage wrapped around it and massage it at night after the soak to circulate blood and take down some of the bruising and swelling.

Don't exercise on it hardcore, but you do need to keep stretching it and moving it. If you don't it will take a lot longer to heal and you'll lose a lot of your flexibility in it. Be light on it the first few days, but don't milk it. Even if it hurts, put your weight on it and try to walk as normally as possible. If you do that it should get to just 'sore' status in less than a week and be good as new in 8-10 days.

Good luck!
