Default Question about Diagnosis

Howdy everyone,

I approached my doctor about the possibility of me having PCOS. I had been reading about it online and noticed I have alot of the symptoms associated with it. I was already being treated for symptoms of it such as IR (treated with Metformin) and Birth Control to regulate my periods. She said judging by all the symptoms that she would say we could assume I do have PCOS but she didn't full out diagnose me with it.

I thought this was kind of weird, nor did she offer to start any tests to make a proper diagnosis. I left feeling a bit odd about the situation. Any suggestions on a way to approach her and get her to nail down whether I have or I don't?

What tests do your doctors do for you that diagnosed you?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

When my doctor was ruling out PCOS (which I do have symptoms for, but was never diagnosed) we talked about my history first. Then I had a bunch of labs done (fasting glucose, etc) and then, finally, I got to go for a vaginal ultrasound. All my tests were inconclusive, so I'm just on BC to regulate my periods as far meds.

From all the research I've really done, I haven't seen any therapies other than Metformin and BC, so I'm not sure what additional treatments your doctor would be able to offer you, even with the diagnosis. However, you really want a diagnosis, maybe see if she can refer you to an endocrinologist.

Good luck!

My doctor said if it looks like PCOS then it is PCOS, no matter what the labs say. Really it's just a "treat the symptoms" kind of thing, so an official diagnosis won't really change anything IMO.
