Default Vegatable Soup

Okay I am making some Vegatable soup from scratch.
Here are my ingredients

Four cups of water
2 cans of 100% vegatable V8 juice
1 can of Corn
1 can of carrots
1 can of green beans
Chopped onions
Chopped celery
garlic powder
Sage
basil

My problem now is how do I determine how many calories is in this. I left out any pasta or potatoe because I am trying to keep it as healthy as possible.

Could I just add up all the calories from each thing like all the carrots all the green beans etc. then divide it by how many cups the soup makes. Would that be an approx. you think.

I found a 88cal vegatable soup and that was for 2 cups but I couldn't find chicken stock cubes at the grocery so I am using vegatable juice which I was recomended too use. So now I don't know how many calories this is going to be. It shouldn't be bad its all veggys.

PS. It smells Awesome!

Default Just making sure

Okay thank you so much. Thats what I figured I should do that makes perfect sense. But I have been very good about following my calories and I just wanted to make sure I was doing it right.

Thanks

When I look for recipe books...(I get a lot from thrift stores) one of the main criteria (besides that it looks good ) is that it have nutrition info. It saves a lot of work.

Once you figure out your numbers, write them on your recipe for next time.

Yup. I do that for all the soups I make ... and chilli and casseroles and everything else.

I love to cook from scratch, so I spend a lot of time figuring out the count of my recipes. But the nice thing is that once I've figured it out, it's there for all the future times I make my favorite things!

Default vEGGY

Well when I added it up it came too about 550 calorie approx.including all ingredients and then it was 10 cups.
So Approx. 55 calories per cup. I am sure depending on how much vegatables are in each cup it could be slightly different but I guess thats a good approx.

I feel like I am doing it wrong because it seems really low in calories and taste so good. But then Again it is just vegatables and 100% vegatable juice which are both good for me.

Kayla

Veggie soup is AMAZINGLY low in cals if you do it right.

This week for lunch I've been eating veggie soup that I made:
Cabbage
baby portobello mushrooms
onion
garlic
shredded carrot
celery
1 can of diced tomatoes
vegetable stock

A huge serving (and I mean huge - 2+ cups in a bowl) is less than 100 cals. And I eat that for lunch w/ some pita or some wasa crackers and I'm full for the afternoon.

Veggie soup is the dieter's friend!~

I am going to start making it more often then because it taste so good and it really does fill you up! It taste great, you can't beat a low calorie lunch or even dinner with like whole wheat turkey sandwhich thats all probably under 300 calories and taste so good.
