Since you have lost 25 pounds you should have no trouble finding a nice dress. Have you tried Ross or Marshall's ? I can usually find something for a very reasonable price at one of those stores.

I like Fashion Bug for style and price... might be worth a shot... sizes are weird, so I strongly suggest visiting a store if you have one nearby... Good luck...

Since your budget is limited have you thought about a consignment or resale shop? They have lots of really nice, expensive clothes for a fraction of the price of new. Many of the outfits have never been worn and still have the original tags. I've found the staff to be really helpful and they know their stock well. The best thing is you can always take the dress back when you're done with it and sell it to someone else.
Just a thought.

Get a dress with a color that will be easy to match. Ex: if you get a dress with some black/white/beige/navy in it, it'll be easier to find a black/white/beige/navy cardigan.
I have muscular legs and I've noticed that if the skirt length is just below the knees or mid-calf it looks okay.

Here's what I've got so far Chicks, I'd LOVE to get some input, especially from any moms/grandmothers out there!
http://store.delias.com/item.do?cate...=&brandFilter=
Try and picture THIS with a black turtle neck shirt underneath, black tights, and then these shoes... or something like that...
http://www.famousfootwear.com/produc...riant_id=65943
That way I won't need a jacket. I've got the shirt already, I'd just need the tights...... what do you ladies think? It's conservative. Is it too short?
Did I mention that she's very racist, and I'm white?
I'm doomed, but I'm trying :/
Edit : Thanks for the sig comment SweetCaroline! I'm digging ANY song about going HOME lately. Oh my gosh, 27 days never felt so long....

Very cute and conservative. And considering you're 5'5", it's probably not too short. If I was wearing it (I'm 6'0") it'd be obscene, lol, but on you it will be the right length.

You may want to try a wrap dress. They are for every woman with every figure!

First of all, LOVE the shoes!! Cute dress too.
My DD doesn't wear dresses either and when we have a dressy occasion to shop for, we look for dressy pants or kind of flowy capri pants for the occasion. Here's the deal, Eskimo, I know you want to impress these people---personally from your description I would be nervous too! But the bottom line is---be yourself! I know from your posts on here that you are a kind and energetic young woman. Be yourself---I think they will love you for who you are! If they don't, it is their problem, and the nicest most expensive dress in the world won't change their mind. Choose an outfit that makes you feel confident & comfortable!
Good luck!

Awww! Thank you, Midwife! That really boosted my confidence.
And thanks for the recommendation, Jenn! I'll keep an eye out.
Thank you for your help, too, Chickybird! Fingers crossed!

You could check into J. Jill. I just got a GORGEOUS black skirt with a lace overlay for $9.99!!! I'll be buying some knit twin sets to wear with it to church and holiday events.
I love their selection and they have nice sales. You can check out their website.
