Default cardio to shrink waist size??

A smaller waist would make me feel so much better in my prom dress. I'm not concerned about ab definition, although it would be nice, but rather I just want to have a trim waist so that I don't look bulge-y in my dress. What exercises do you all recommend? I'm talking cardio specifically. I've committed to 55 minutes of elliptical everyday and about 10 minutes of steep treadmill walking as cardio. What else can you suggest that works??
I have a tad less than five weeks.
Thanks very much!

I would recommend pilates in addition to your cardio. That will really strengthen your core.

i agree. yoga/pilates/good old crunches (done properly) should show you tremendous benefits. Good luck!

All these types of exercises will help develop muscle in that area, but they won't necessarily make your waist smaller. Sorry, but spot reducing doesn't work. As you lose weight you should lose from your waist and cardio will help speed up fat loss (as will building muscle.)

Until then, I'd suggest buying some spanx to wear under your dress to smooth things.

Yup. Agree with Zenor - there is no such thing as spot reducing. Losing the fat is the only thing that will help.

I'd suggest trading out your 55 minutes of elliptical for 30 minutes of high-intensity-intervals instead. 55 mins of steady cardio is something that your body will get used to quickly. HIIT will keep your metabolism revved and burn more calories after your workout as well as during.
