Question Goldfish aerator not working!

I have a question, and at the moment, I can't get it answered anywhere else, so I'm hoping you lovely ladies might be able to help!

I have a goldfish tank, and I need to change the filter. Earlier, I unplugged the aerator to check if I had purchased the correct filters. It turns out that I hadn't, so later today, I'm going to be (hopefully) buying the right ones. However, now the aerator won't turn back on when I plug it in!

Does that mean that the aerator is broken? And how do I keep my fish alive until I can change the filter/buy a new aerator?

Thank you in advance

First off..does it still hum??

If it hums disconnect the tubing and see if you can feel air coming fromt he aerator...if so more than likely the "stone" on the end of the aerator is plugged. The stomes are inexpensive and an easy fix.

If the aerator is silent and/or you don't feel air comeing out of it more than likely it is broken.

One other thing you can check. SOME (not all) aerator pumps have a little cotton like filter on the outside, you can try changing that. But before I would try to find new a filter (not a comonly stocked item depending on where you shop) If the aerator is not making noise try removing the filter and see if it starts working. IF it doesn't start working, don't go buy filters.

Thumbs down

No humming...

Replacement filters are at every Walmart and pet store here, so they're not hard to get. I really think that my whole aerator is broken, though.

My main concern now is how to keep my fish alive until tomorrowish, when I can buy a new aerator.

Just goldfish??? They should be fine for a day unless they are over crowded or the water is really dirty.

They're neither.

Thanks again for the advice!
